its been awhile since i posted due to the fact i had given up on my 1985zx.but after putting a fuel pump as most recommended she jus wouldnt go.i finally found a young mechanic that had worked at the large nissan dealership and had struck out on his own.to make a long story short it was the mass air sensor,which ironically he said failed because before when i had the overheating problem i took it out to let more air into the engine,big mistake but we live and learn,so learn from me not the hard way.thanks for all the advice i was given hopefully i wont need much more cause my wife would kill me now if she knew how much money i got in this thing but its a blast to drive!

wow, well we're glad you fgot it worked out, so you say you damaged the afm when removing it?
