Heheheh I don't think from now on there will be too many getaway GM cars.

Read this:

Now GM has decided to take OnStar a step further. Starting on select '09 models, the latest feature, called Vehicle Slow Down, will be incorporated. GM worked closely with law enforcement to bring this feature to reality and will greatly improve the safety of both the officers and your vehicle.

How does it work? When an OnStar subscriber reports their vehicle as stolen, they're given the option to use Vehicle Slow Down if their car is involved in a high-speed chase or crime. Once the owner gives the go-ahead, officers in pursuit of the vehicle have command of the OnStar system and can shut the car down when they feel it's safest for everyone involved.

The officer makes the command to activate Vehicle Slow Down and a GPS signal is sent to the Pontiac. The newly incorporated Electronic Throttle Bodies on the latest GM cars have their signal interrupted, impeding the driver's ability to accelerate while maintaining full control over the power braking and steering system. This means that the high-speed chase involving the stolen Pontiac has just been resolved.

So if you plan to rob a bank don't do it with GM. LOL

Or at least make sure you don't subscribe to On Star if you do

All these electronics is the reason why I love my little nissan----she still runs on OBD I technology. The highest technology inside of her is a cruise control. Everything else, is cable, levers, fulcrum, and winders.

That's really a good idea I think. If they are already using a system like this then integrating something like throttle control would be the next logical step. I would do many extreme things to ensure that people do not mess with my car, I have always been fortunate to own crap so it rarely gets messed with.

I was actually in a 97 I30 that had On-star... I found a secure adjustment and GPS setting menu while programming a key so the system was functional and OE.Looking at the rear view mirror confirmed the presence of On-Star and not just some random OE Phone and GPS tracking device .I bet there were contractual issues resulting in On-Star not staying with Infiniti/Nissan. Maybe someday they will offer a optional user interface for non-GM owned vehicles.

It's sort of like Lo-Jack with slightly more advanced features, and doesn't require an additional key chain. The thing about On-Star that I like is a potential thief knows that a GM uses Big Brother monitoring, thereby decreasing the chances of selecting your car as the next target. I can imagine that the insurance rate would decrease, although Escalades are still highly stolen??? Go figure.

See I am also one of those radicals that think having a standardized Federally issued ID card is a decent idea. I like simplicity and uniformity, although given our track record it might not be the best idea. lol

Steve as much as I agree with your post. I have a little trust issue. It just a matter of time to use it aganst you. But that's just me. I totally agree tho with lower insurace rate and sure some thief would think twice before they taking your car. But believe me some of those guys are way ahead of the tech. If they want to take your car they will. It is only good for those kids who steal cars for a joyride.

I think it's a great idea... until they catch on like Zozo said. Which...eventually they will.
