Ok... so I'm coming home from getting the girlfriend, and make a bit of a hard left and hear her scream. I look over and theres a little bit of water (like maybe 2-3oz.) coming out from under the passenger side dash area. It's only happening when i turn left and only if its a bit of a hard left or a bumpy spot in the road while turning left. it appears to be coming out either through or above the floor air ducting for the AC. I'm figuring its a loose heater core connection or cracked hose leading to the heater core... can anyone give me a definite "yes" on if its a heater core problem or not, and if so how to fix..? I don't wanna tear out my dash or something unless absolutely necessary, besides I'm not even too sure how to do that..

Are you using coolant or just water in the radiator? If you're using coolant, smell it.

It most likely is the heater core. But that would be a way to 100% tell.

using a light mix cause its about to be summer in texas and water is cheaper lol. but yeah i know its coolant, im just umcertain as to if there are other coolant tubes back there or just the heater core, and how to get back there to it to either replace a coolant tube or the heater core itself... can you or anyone give me any idea on the easiest/simplest way to get back there and check it out/fix it...?

if it was me (depending on your body size, this could be tricky) i would lay on my back with my head on the floor and look up under the dash with a flashlight, see if you can find any built up grimey parts, dried green crusties, or obvious signs of leaking. i've never done a heater core in a z32 but in other vehicles they're not too bad, maybe i've been lucky but i've never had to remove a dash to replace one

alright, thanks man, I'll try that tomorrow afternoon... its a bit too late tonight and i work in the morning. I'm hoping its just a dry rot hose that I can easily replace, but as with all things I'm planning for the worst and hoping for the best. I'll keep up with this post, please check back and give me any tips depending on what I find, I appreciate the help and thoughts.

IIRC, the Z32 requires dash removal. BTW, dash removal isn't TERRIBLY difficult. Just take your time and don't break anything, or it will squeek and rattle for all of eternity.

$#!%... can anyone describe how to do it properly or show me a write up on dash removal so i can fix this leaking issue without going in blind...? I'd hate to start tearing it down and end up going the wrong direction or breaking something...

The only write up I know about is on a site that is currently down.

Google got me this: http://www.ehow.com/how_7782326_remove- ... board.html

(you're lucky I didn't post the lmgtfy link :) )

if you have the URL to the site that is down, paste the URL into google, it might find the page, then instead of clicking on it, click on where it says 'cached' it will try to pull a copy of the site from google memory

It's back up now. Here's a hint, and I mean no disrespect to Nico. If there's a technical how-to I'm looking for, I always check twinturbo.net first. The sheer volume of write-ups from staff and members alike is astonishing.

Here's a heater core replacement without dash removal how-to

And because the pics are dead, here are the pictures.

This is a good place to peruse sometime when you get bored

wait.... so i can actually just completely bypass the heater core itself? 0.o seems an easier quick fix, yes? I mean... I could just bypass, then when I replace my wiring harness completely remove the heater core and internal piping as well, I live in Texas, so a heater is pretty much useless aside from the like 5 days a year it drops below 70... sound like a plan? just to get it to stop leaking everywhere and pissing me and the girlfriend off.

You can, and replace it when you get time.

Oh, and you should run at least 30% coolant (not the premix 50/50 stuff, but real coolant). I'd recommend a 50/50 mix of coolant/distiled water. The coolant also has anti-corrosion properties, and for a car with an iron block, this is critical.

Thanks guys, got the leaking taken care of. Although another problem arose after that, not cooling system related x.x
