So, I go to change out my fuel pump for the stock unit, and to my surprise, this is what I came up with when the cover came off:

And here are the chicnks of melted plastic that ended up in my gas tank:

The tank REEKED of melted plastic, and the pump body/level meter were coated with white dust from all the smoke. Im hellllla lucky I didnt burn my car to the ground with this POS. Needless to say, Walbro is going to get a Nastygram tonight.

PS, The stock pump works fine, so it wasnt the wiring.

It's just a flesh wound. A little sand paper work and it will be good to go.

walbros arent reliable. they always die/lose pumping power rather quickly.

first time ive ever seen one fail in that manner.

use a bosch or an aeromotive next time.

You should first try to find out what happened, if that is possible. That may not be Walbro's fault. It is possible that some trash got into the pump and jammed the gears.

As for the wiring... there is no way that was the issue -- unless you wired it up backwards (reverse polarity). There is no way to "short" the wiring to a pump. If you short it, the pump just sees 0 voltage.

Where did you purchase your Walbro?

I got the pump from a seller on ebay. All I can think of is that the fuel lines being switched caused the pump to overload by trying to push pressure into the FPR the wrong way. I would assume that the pump has a safety built in to prevent this type of thing from happening, but it may have been faulty. Im just glad to alive and sans 1st degree burns from being in the drivers seat as my car exploded :)

I'm not sure that would be an issue either. Both ends of the fuel rail have identical regulators. They are mirror images, except that the one in the back has no vacuum hose connection to the manifold. If you were to hook up the fuel lines backwards, it seems to me like it would still pump, only you'd be running really rich at idle, so it might not crank. Shouldn't have hurt the pump tho.
