Okay here's the problem, a friend of mine has a 96 V6 mustang, that's 150HP in a 3069 lbs car, it's pretty slow, i got an s14 a couple of days ago, so my friend asked me if I wanted to race, so i said sure, i was pretty sure i could get him, after all my car's got 155hp and weighs ~2700lbs (base model), I knew he was going to get me off the line because both our cars are auto and he has more low end torque, but i figured i would catch up to him at the top of 2nd or so, well, i didn't, in fact by the middle of third he was like 3 1/2 cars in front of me and he was still pulling, i tried power braking it and releasing the brake at ~2200RPMs, i tried going full throttle letting the transmission shift at whatever rpm it wanted, i tried playing with the gas pedal so it would shift at like 5900-6000 RPMs, everything, and the outcome didn't change, my car is stock and all he has is some cheap universal muffler, also a few weeks ago i raced him on my old 95 Del Sol S (1.5l SOHC, non-VTEC, 103hp and 98lb-ft torque) i got him bad off the line (mine was stick his is auto) he caught up little by little every time I up-shifted , then, when I shifted into 4th he was still in third so he passed me, not by much tough by the end of the race my car's front wheel was next to his rear wheel, according to carstats.com both cars run around 17.1 Sec. 1/4 mile so i knew it was gonna be close, so i don't understand why he won this time, and by so much, i should have at least kept up like with my del sol, after he got bored and left, i measured the 0-60 in a ****ty 9.83 sec., WTF, my del sol did it in 8.3 sec. With 98lb-ft of torque at 5000RPMs, so i’m wondering, is there something wrong with my car? or is it supposed to be this slow? Any one raced a 96-98 Stang stock Vs stock, auto Vs auto, who won? I’m going to see if there's anything wrong with my car tomorrow, is there anything in particular i should look for?One more thing the gas pedal was sticking so i cleaned my throttle body with carb cleaner earlier today, could that have affected the car in some way.PS. the car runs fine, no ticking, no hesitation, no nothing.I'd really appreciate any help, and please no flaming about street racing, i know what i can get my self into, plus i’m racing in an empty street.

Hmm that's just wrong..I smoke my friend in his dad's stang think it's an 01 too. It's v6 and he has intake. Use to screw with him off and on cuz it's so slow. But then I showed him how to shift with an automatic and I have to watch myself. But still no matter what I beat him. Even if I get a horrible start. I let off the clutch easy because I know i can take him. I got a bone stock 93 hatch it's 5spd though. I read on a site a while back that says all you do is disconnect a wire and it will allow for faster shifts in an automatic.Beleive it is under the center arm rest behind your e-brake (if I remember correctly). From what it said it makes it so your car shifts faster because of the pressure it makes it shift slow for a nice clean shift. Disconnecting the plug will make it shift quicker but give you a jerk. Basically makes it feel just like manual. Does the car seem to be running fine through all rpms is it shifting quick or easy(say you saw no hesitations but asking anywayz)? You should be able to take him from my experiences.
