I ordered eibach lowering kit for my A/C 3.5L and installed it this weekend, just the front for now, following the awesome directions written by fellow Nico member. The problem is, I am getting alot of noises from both front sides, like something is lose. I checked and all the bots are secured tight. I am so scared to drive it. It doesn't sound like its from the strings, but defintely from the struts. Can i get some advise. Would putting the springs on backward cause this problem? I used "eibach" word as reference to decide what is top and bottom. I am so afraid the suspensions are gonna bust out!!!

When are you noticing the noises? when you turn the wheel? when you hit a bump at speed? when you go over a certain size bump?

Describe the sound more, is it a popping? scraping? how loud/often?

Did you have trouble with anything during the install? you're 100% sure you tightened EVERYTHING?

How did you reinstall the springs on the strut? were they compressed enough you could tighten the bolt on top all the way down?

We need more info/pics to help you out.

Ah, I think I know your problem. Sounds like you did not tighten the master strut bolts (whatever they're called) all the way. It's number two on this pic:

Open your hood and look at the master strut bolt. There's two, obviously, one on each strut. The bolts have one of those Torx (star pattern) sockets on top of the threaded section.

What you need to do is use a Torx socket to hold the strut in place, keeping it from spinning, while you tighten the actual bolt (#2). If you try to tighten the bolt without holing the strut in place with the Torx, the strut will just spin and it won't tighten all the way.

Make sure those are tight. Even a CM worth of thread left untightened will make terrible knocking noises.

Hope that helps...

<<< what he said.

I had the same problem when i first test drove the car after installing the the front springs.

I used an alenwrench and tightened the struts master bolt.

The noise went away

incidentally enough after installing the eibachs the squeeking coming from the driver seat/seatbelt area went away, I guess it was coming from the springs?

There is noise only during driving, esp bumpy roads. Its more of a rattle than a hissing or springing sound....I called eibach tech and they said, as long as the clear plasic tube is on the springs at the bottom, no noise should be coming from the spring itself and i should check all the bots again, esp the strut hub.

So I checked again and everything is 500lb impact wrench tight... except bolt #2, the middle one. It spins and spins. I asked a friend, and he said it supose to be... but I guess i'll take your advise and use a Torx socket to hold the strut in place, keeping it from spinning, while you tighten the actual bolt. This was the first thing in my mind when I heard the noise.. but my friend convinced me otherwise....To bad I don't have a Torx socket. Quick question... Do I have to remove the whole struct/spring or can i just tighten them while in the car?

Also, if you look at bolt#2, I do have about same amount of bolt showing as in the picture, about 1 cm - 1.5 cm. Before I installed the springs, that bolt was so tight i had to use the impact wrench, but now it spins so easily.

Lastly, I used to get a hishing sound when i turn left, even when I am not driving.. but not its gone after a short drive... atleast one probleme gone...

Thanks for all the inputs. I'll keep you guys posted.

Don't listen to your friends. Listen to NICO! If that bolt is spinning, that is 100% the cause of your rattling noise. Get a set of Torx and tighten that bish up!

And no, you don't have to remove the whole assembly. Tighten bolt #2 while it is installed, it will work.

I think the center of that bolt is just a standard allen, maybe 6mm?

So what happen dude. Did you try to tighten the shock with the torx wrench? Did it work for you? Give me the 411. I'm going to install mine this weekend and I don't want to run into any problems.

I didn't have time until this morning... but to NICO members. It worked perfectly. I got a crappy 6mm allen wrench to tighten it while using a adjustable wrench to hold it from turning. I am so relieaved, I was so worried because my car felt like a coke can for the last 2 days. This should defintely be added to the tutorial.

I have installed only the front 2 springs.. but what a difference it made on handling...and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I've lov'em them so much.. can't wait to install the rear springs this weekend!!!

Everyone should get these!!!!

I'm pretty sure you are just hearing the shocks. I get the same noise when going over speed bumps at times.

I have a few suggestions on problems I encountered during the install. 1. When you are using the compressor, think things through on which way you put on the compressor on. Few times I would compress it and the bolt would get in the way and I needed to take it out again and compress it the other way, and also because my impact wrench was not able fit right.

2. When you are rebuilding the assembly, its a bit tricky because its tilted at an angle and even when I compressed as much as I could with the compressor, I couldn't get the middle bolt showing enough to put the bolt on (Bolt #2 shown in the picture above) so I used my body weight to push it down little more to get middle bolt on..

GOOD LUCK!

Seems like my car has the same problem. Thanks for the tip guys. I'll try to tight the bolt more to see if that'll fix the problem.
