So after a long day of classes I head over to my car to make my way home and what do I see??? Someone broke into my car!!! I wasn't mad about the iPod that they stole but the fact my car has been hurt and the hassle it is going to be to replace the windows and re-tint my car irritated me. For those who unfortunately had a similar experience I ask your advice. Should I go through my insurance? Do they cover the damages? Should I just pay out of pocket to get it fixed? Any suggestions will help for I have never experienced this in my life. Do not go into North-East Philly if you don't have to. The sound of the glass going back and forth inside you door is like nails on a chalk board.

sorry to hear that man. i'm pretty sure you can report that to your insurance company. i'm really not to familiar with that either but man that sucks. something similar happened to me but it was my driver side door that got keyed deep to the metal. i'm gonna pay for it by pocket. people these days man...

it depends on what's ur deductible....if it's 500, then forget it. replacing the window should cost you less than that. and it is pointless to report to your insurance at all.i had the same experience as you did. and i just paid right out of my pocket.

A lot of insurance companies give 1 free anual glass replacement. Although that might only apply for the windshield, not sure.

Sorry to hear about the break-in. Don't worry karma will get em.

Depends on your ins. deductible bro. If it's $500 or more, you are better off coming out of pockets. This **** happened to me years ago, so I know the feeling.

That sucks bro, I would call your insurance company (but don't tell them who you are) Then ask them your question hypotheticly and see if they have a special deductable for glass. Not telling them who you are will make sure they can't put some kind of little comment on policy. It has worked for me before.

P.S. My buddy just got a pattent for a camera that goes in your car, and when it is broken into it starts snapping off pictures and sends them to your cell phone. So hopefully he will get this made soon. Then we can track down the A-holes that dare to hurt our babies.

Bad idea - if you try to do that, they probably won't tell you; claims are determined at the time of loss. Most compaines claims departments don't entertain hypotheticals (I know the company i work for doesn't). You got lucky trying that...

And yea - get an estimate of the damage, check for a glass replacement clause, etc...having claim activity on your account can affect your rates, even if it is a not-at-fault accident like that.

Yea the tickets were 100 level seats on the 50. I just thought of all the money I would waste by missing a once a week class and the fact it was the first class. Either way it looks like I'm paying for the decision.

I had USAA at the time, and they had no problem answering hypotheticals. But USAA is known to have excellent customer service. I know alot of companys now arnt so hot.

P.S. USAA just started offering insurance to non military personel and they cover broken glass with a $5 deductible. But they are usually kind of pricey. But i believe you get what you pay for.

Ah man that sucks, sory to hear that. It really depends on what type of coverage you have. All new cars pretty much require full coverage considering their value and glass should be covered. Did they damage anything else besides the window? Glass is covered under full coverage but if your like me with my old car the ****er bent the door frame to get into the car THEN broke the window lol. Cost about $1200 to insurance so it was cheaper to shell out the 500 for the deductible.

blows to hear. (blows is the new "sucks"). but anyway. it really depends on your deductable. its different from the one for collision usually. most times its about half the cost of collision actually. my deductable is 250 and when my old civic was broken into i fibbed and said my aftermarket stereo was moe than it actually was. in your case you could say you had a laptop in there, maybe a pair of expensive sunglasses.

theres a few things you could do to come away with this without having to pay for your deductable. but in most cases a police report is needed so you should do that before calling the insurance. hopefully you have coverage through one of the major companies so they wont care too much.

My suggestion is to

1. Put a real alarm system in your car because the factory one sucks a$$

2. Find out what your glass deductible is, and find out if it will cost you money come premium time!
