Hey guys, been creeping the forums for a couple days since I picked up a 720 in amazing condition! I decided that it's time for me to show off my 720 and what I have planned for it.

I picked it up for $2,000 plus auction fees at a classic car auction. Here are some pictures.

Right now, all that i have eventually planned is lowered 2-3 inches and an engine swap of some sorta; maybe a ka24 or something!

Can't wait to start modding more pictures to come after my exams!

I have no clue will find out later today for you. I'll explain how I came to secure this 720.

I attend University about 6 or so hours away from home and recently sold another truck in hopes of getting a small bodied truck I had about $10,000 set aside for it. Never really found what I wanted before i left so i just said forget it and just left with no vehicle. Jump forward to this past weekend i got a call from my step father who was at an auction my family attends and buys cars from. He asks me to transfer the 10,000 i had saved up to his account and refused to tell me why. I did so anyways cause hes got a taste in cars and knows what i like. (We built a 1987 f150 w/ a 351 Cleveland which is at @ 515hp now)

An hour later my mother tells me to go on the auction website and look at the truck in this block. She never confirmed them winning it but my mother wouldnt just do that. Got my buddy to drive by today who is back home already and its in the driveway waiting. Called my mother and confirmed although i am still supposed to act surprised ahah.

So, i havent even seen the car in person and wont till around the 20th. More pictures and such then.

Great story! It looks like it's been well cared for and since bidding went up as high as it did, you probably have a great running truck, just the way it is. Swap motors if you want, but I'd say stick with the Z24 until it dies! Just my opinion.

Just got the rest back into my account, only costed 2,420 with auction fees.

Just noticed the bed on it. Datsun front clip with an `85 Nissan bed? Sweet  I preferred the vertical taillights over the horizontal ones anyhoo

Eh, I like the horizontal ones better too if you never use the truck for truck things but the vertical ones are more practical for not getting rear ended.

You Truck looks pretty original especially that rear. I say drive the crap out of it and keep it well maintained, at least for a bit and feel it out before doing anything major. A lot of people regret moving to fast and not enjoying the vehicle for what it was and end up buying more to try to find it.

Did well. :mike

Yeah, I don't like the horizontal taillights.

See the thing is; I know nothing about nissan engines and looking at the HP outputs kinda scare me. (low) ahah.

I've been raised on American engines but I have always been interested in japanese cars/engines so i was thinking about picking up a KA24E and turboing it before dropping it in if that makes sense.

The horsepower figures are low, but the torque figures are alright. These engines also rev pretty good and with reasonably designed gearing and an overall light weight they're a blast to drive even if they're not the fastest thing on the road. Also, I can't speak for the 4wd trucks, but the 2wd trucks handle great and I got a 76mph speeding ticket proves they aren't as gutless as some might think. Driving a slow car fast is a lot more fun than driving a fast car slow, y'know?

Yeah makes sense.

However, im kinda worried about Z22 parts so i may just do the swap this winter.

Any suggestions? KA24 or SR20?

yuu will get more horse out of an sr20 but from personal experience a ka24e is a pretty straight forward swap, both have been done though

Not looking for something new, something fun and turbo able.

I've always wanted to turbo something; its just not right to turbo 351 windsors/clevelands

turbo vg30et?

But turboing kae's is well supported. You can send several people a couple ecu's and have them put maps to match your setup. IIRC any KA24e ecu can run the motor.

Just stick to finding a motor out of a truck so you don't waste time converting a 240sx motor to rear sump.

Stick to low boost and it should do well on a solid motor. The weak point is the pistons, so unless you bend rod spend money on forged pistons on a rebuild. There is a ton of info on them so I'd say its a good way to go. even on pretty low 6-8psi you are like 220 at the wheels.

Alrighty, I was thinking about doing a KA24 for easy and such. Not looking for too much boost 10psi if that.

In a bit of a situation.

Went to change the interior and found out the previous owner left huge holes in the flooring. I will post pictures in a bit but does anyone know where i can order new floor pans?

just put in some new sheet metal, won't look like the stock floor pan but it'd be solid.

It's whats gonna end up happening probably. We figured that it would just be easy to replace it due to the magnitude of multiple holes but meh.

I think ill start my build thread soon ahhaha.

Sorry for the delay, been busy:

(Grey diamond platting looking thing is the FLOOR of our garage)
Thats the hole we found a long with a few others. Its getting fixxed up right now as i type this. Also cut out new interior and i will get pictures when that is fully done as well.

Plan is im starting to look for KA24e's + turbo kits during this spring/ summer and hopefully buy them this summer. Tinker with them and get it set up for a spring drop in. I'm probably a looking at getting a GReddy kit hopefully as i wouldnt mind spending 4000 on a kit i know will work.

EDIT: It might be cheaper to do a SR20DET wouldnt it?

Uhmmm.... I think I just bought the exact same truck... That exact truck actually, it's soo funny, I googled Datsun 720 to compare mine to other vehicles, found the picture and it brought me here. I can't believe I actually bought this truck. Just a question, did you ever end up swapping motors??
