here's pics. I'll let him fill in the specs...

bare block, fresh from the machine shop. makes me all hot and bothered. I want one.

crank installed.

SWEEEEET cp pistons. stock CR I think. overbored some ammount, again have to wait for omar to fill in the blanks.

bottom end mostly assembled... I'll do more tomorrow. I cut the **** out of my finger on a ring... booo

this thing turns like BUTTER. <3 I am super impressed with the quality of the machine work. Everything checked out with micrometer and bore gauges. 400+ hp here we come. check back for more updates as we do it. Headwork is next!

Looking good, Sean! He got the right man on the job ! See you in the upper horsepower ring. Between this week and next week, I'll be tuning a couple of CA powered cars on the rollers and I expect both of them to do better than 400whp.

I really wish I had gotten a chance to get pics of mine before I put it together. They were pretty darn sexxy.

I've contemplated fabbing up a T3/T4 setup just for S&G's to see what kinda power I can get outta this lil' guy.

I'll have to wait till it's not my daily for that though...

are those aftermarket rods too? He have any work done on the crankshaft?

i still have gashes in both my hands from tightly holding the ring compressor to the block from last week. i don't like installing rings or pistons very much anymore.

No sir. I want one bad tho. I'm gonna wait until i graduate high school, i'm a senior this year. I also want some suspension first, then get my college funding sqaured away, and then there will be a ca in my s14. Just lurking around the forum to learn more about the coolest nissan engine ever! I'll keep everyone updated as my plan begins unfolding

you're close. coolest engine ever (esp as far as 4cyl go) would have to be an FJ24. I dont think anyone would disagree on that one. BUT CAs are about as close as youre going to get to that ultimate.. so you win

fj24 came in the 240rs, which was a rally special car, that was about the size of an Audi Quattro. Not many left in the world.

Dee,I was wondering what the "real" max Fly Wheel HP (or wheel HP) is for the stock CA18DET rods before they bend or break??

We are thinking about re building the CA18/Starlet and add forged pistons and rods (if needed).

Any links to good piston/rod companies?

I now have this bottom end in my car. Just finished up installing it. Now I'm doing some tuning and break-in. Still rom tuning right now thinking about what to go with. Tomorrow I'm going up to my buddie's junk yard to grab all the ford edis parts that I will need for mega squirt.

Engine did 160psi across the board plus or minus 3 psi while cold. So it's looking good. I'm probably going to wuss out and put a s-15 turbo on here. I have my old t-25g mounted up right now. Also I'm thinking about getting a new wideband; mine is a plxdevices m-300 and as far as I know I can't data log with it and it doesn't play nice with megasquirt. I might get an innovative controller instead.

This isn't the same block but this is the last pic of have of my engine from last year.

It's not the HP that kills rods it's RPM.

Stock rods should be fine at 7500-8000 rpm, right? the factory red line is 7500 if the tachometer is right.

This looks like an old thread, I wonder how the motor is now...

Nothing will kill rods quicker than a bad tune, rpm's aside, my tuner had a CA18DET hit 10000rpm on stock rods, just too see if it could be done, one of the bearings gave out the rods held up...

Stock CA18DET (JDM) rods are good for close to 300rwk if they are prepped accordingly, they are not forged items...

If you are chasing 230+ rwk and rebuilding, you should be looking at forged items, for reliability... I have a set of spool forged rods as part of my build...

Hey thier young "Thunder Cat", some of us are still around and kicking (Where's me S.S.S. Tonic) , but just totally consumed with other things. I'm more behind the scenes for now building engines and just plain making cars go faster. I'm like BASF: I don't make the cars, I make them better . My day job keeps so busy, that I can't even finish my sentras which will both be something for the eyes to see. But I'll make one testament, the 240sx I just built with CA and silvia conversion, has to be one of the smoothest and most quiet performance 240s I have ever seen or built. Videos will be coming soon of this car I brag about as well. Oh yeah, did I mention that it is fast and that it is well over 300whp in it's current condition . Tuning is the key and tuning for me is pretty easy.........So we might be old timers, but this old Coon can still work it .

yep just a youngin. I always look forward. though the last post about your wifes car being smashed wasnt so great. hows that coming along? 300WHP in an S13...... are you converting to the RWD side?
meminto wrote:This looks like an old thread, I wonder how the motor is now...
He parted his motor out. last I heard both him and sean are on to bigger and "better" things as their jobs made them negletic their 240s. I actually bought my first set of coil packs off Omars car.....

Sean bought the heads off him and idk what happened to the block.

The car you speak of was set at exactly 335whp all day everyday. The car (as you already know) had been destroyed and the standalone's brain unit and the injectors from her old car is now in that 240 I spoke of. Coupled with a pretty nice size turbo (Specs to be given when I'm done) and a few extra goodies, it's a blast to drive. Injector size is 750cc and it too uses an MSD DIS-II ignition system. I'm not converting to RWD, but I do have a few 240s that I'm building to sell. If your money is right, you too can have a turn-key reliable beast (j/k). Goal on this car is 400 daily whp on 93 octane. Not impossible, but no time to finish the car. Gotta go to work kids! Daddy has to pay the mortgage............
