So I was thinking, and it seems like most old bands have gone through rehab, and now suck. The only band I can think of that is still kicking *** is Candlebox. Can you guys think of any others?

I'm sure there's more but I don't know what your definition of old is, and what kind of music you like.

Oh well, I tried. AC/DC & MC are the only ones I listen to often, maybe a little Metallica also but the last four were just random.

I liked S&M, and No Leaf Clover and Minus Human sounded great, so I was optimistic that they were heading in the right direction. Then they hit rehab and some kid of monster came out. I began plotting breaking into Hetfield's house and injecting him with some booze just to get the ball rolling again, but god damn, that album was a dissapointment. I heard the new single on the radio, and it too sucked balls. I won't make the same mistake twice by buying the new metallica album.

Alice in Chains is still kicking though, Although I despise them U2 is still annoyingly prevalent.Skynyrd is still doing alright, even though they really only play the classics.

Aerosmith is still doing alright. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, and Foo Fighters are still kicking, Although the Foo are taking a long term break. Godsmack (My personal favorite, I saw them as an opening act at the Living Room in Providence Ri when I was sixteen) they've been doing well for more than a decade.

I think the problem is the all the people who have made great music over the last 30 years are all burned out or dead.

Alice in Chains??? I thought Lane Staley died a while ago. I haven't heard anything new from them in a while (but I did see Jerry Cantrell live... which was amazing at Lupo's).

Aerosmith isn't really making any good new music, which is what this thread is really about (sorry if that was unclear, I guess I wasn't specific enough). RHCP, Godsmack, and Foo are definitely leading the pack with Candlebox though. Good find! I've seen the foo a couple times. Once way back at the strand during the colour and the shape tour, and once at Lupos. I saw Godsmack at greatwoods and it was definitely one of the best concerts I've been to. Seeing them at the living room would be intense, to say the least.

Alice In Chains without Layne is not AIC. Even though Jerry was the predominant writer in the band, Layne's voice took them to another planet.

LOL I know what the title says and it was clear, I assumed someone might still like the I do not and I agree with both of you. I was looking up hits from the late 80s and early 90s and just threw out a few that I know I have still heard something about.

I hear people say that a lot and always find it odd. The second album was one of their least good IMO. Third, fourth and fifth were the best. The were still awesome until their 6th album, since which they have been good, but not as good. Their latest album has a lot of really bad emo lyrics that annoy the crap out of me since one of my favorite things about old Korn was that they never whined. Now they whine, and it sucks.

HahahaActually they have 8 albums out:

Korn (excellent)Life is Peachy (good)Follow the Leader (excellent)Issues (excellent)Untouchables (excellent)Take a Look in the Mirror (good, goes back to their original style but lacks the awesomeness)See You on the Other Side (a couple good songs, but starting to get whiny)8 (Untitled) (A couple good songs, lots of whining)

Issues and Untouchables are probably my favorites. Not a song on either I don't like.

There's more, but I can't think of them right now.

Korn's first album, Follow the Leader, and Issues are classics. After that, it kinda, no it did, go down hill.

Dream Theater always sucked though they were just as bad as The Cure. I was more of the metal head back in the day and I still cling to the classics.

IMO Korns first album was my favorite and I think I might go buy it off Itunes. Everything else started pulling a Metallica. I guess they don't make rock stars like they used to.

I heard that Oasis was playing here soon. Seriously Champagne Supernova always sucked almost as much as Blur but they are still kicking. I wonder if tickets are still available? LOL who am I kidding of course they are.

Papasmurf, I hate Dream Theater because of this guy...

Even though he's a great drummer, he's a center of attention whore. In band interviews he doesn't let anyone else speak, and when John Petrucci finally gets a sentence out, finishes it for him. I hate that guy.

Makes sense. I've never seen a band interview with them... but I have seen them live. They were amazing (and touring with Queensryche).

+1 for punching babies, little bastards deserve it.

Would any of you guys pay $200 for Metallica tickets, to stand in the mosh pit?

My parts manager just did, and I roffled when he told me that. I saw them last tour they were on mainly to see Godsmack, I had not seen them since they were opening for 7th Rail Crew at The Living Room in PVD.

I ran into this video recently and was blown away. Well, you guys might not like this kind of music, but watch the video anyway. It's a master's work. I was glad to see that he's doing well and still kicking.

Groups like AC/DC are pretty much as good as they were back in the early 80's from a musical perspective. Problem is the music they play all sounds the same. After Back in Black the rest of their albums (CD's, whatever) all sound relatively alike. There is a AC/DC channel on XM which plays all of their tunes and they all sound similar with different words (for the most part).

Lol, true, he is somewhat of an attention whore (hmm, that whole multi CD span of his booze problems songs ring a bell for self-pity?), but he sure can slam the hell out of the set better than anyone I've ever heard. Just don't watch the interviews

I vote Symphony X as well.

I'll throw in Bon Jovi for good measure as well

I think Rush and Maiden are still doing good. I never got into DT. To me, their music is not exciting or unique. Just boring...
