Hi .,.

I've seen comparisons on various sites... BMW 335i VS. G35SBut I'd really love to hear your opinions!

My buddy leased himself a new 335i, and is nice - very nice actually. I personally have never owned a bmw - because I've had 2 audis - and well, audi guys and bmw guys don't mix - I think. He let me drive it - and I was quite impressed.

I do know the 335i is more $$ - but because of the lower rates etc - it was actually about the same cost.

So without cost, what do you think?

I don't have Consumer reports or Edmund's reviews right in front of me, and most likely I'll be blasted for this response (we all seem to get blown out here on occasion), but so be it.

BMW's now have extremely low ratings on Consumer Reports with respect to reliability and dependability. Most European cars (I've owned 3 older Volvos with an average of 300K miles) manufactured in the last 10-12 years now receive extremely poor ratings, which is especially disturbing given their cost and status symbol. At one point, Consumer Reports even stated that a 10 year old Lexus had better reliability than many expensive, luxury, European cars.

I'm not down on BMW's and you have to also know that they still set the standard for excellent driving experience. I think the issue is balancing what you want in a car with what best fits your criteria.

I would tend to follow the research gathered from 1,000's of reviewers-- much more reliable- for the above companies that do car reviews.than the few you'll get on any car forum.

BMW's are sexy, beautiful, fast, drive extremely well and established an excellent reputation 20-30 years ago. While they are used for racing and guys who like speed often prefer them, for regular drivers, there has been a huge problem with reliability and dependability.

Finally, if you like being on a first name basis with your mechanic, if your mechanic has given your car a name like Sophia or Janet, if the shop has named a door after you, if you like having a mechanic on retainer......... and if you like driving a red 1990 Ford Taurus as a loner while your car is in the shop week after week- by all means by a BMW.

Much better options now are the Lexus, Infiniti and Acura lines, all of which have received Consumer Report's, JD Powers and Edmund's highest ratings..... contrast that to most European cars and the data will give you everything you need to know.

If I had unlimited amounts of money, I'd probably choose the BMW... but, I'd rather invest in my 401K than give my money to the shop. Just my .0005 cents worth. Finally, there will be some that state they've owned their beemer for years and have had no problems... statistically, the car has a higher ratio of problems than the Infiniti line (although the g has had problems with the brakes, audio and oil consumption).

BTW he compared the G35s and there is no issue with the brake and the audio on the G35s. Other then that totally agree.A company who sells cars and have problem with overheating the oil because they "forget" to put oil cooler in the car has problems. Also not a fun of the new exterior design.

zozo, he was referring to the brake dust and audio head deck/circuit board issues with the 03-04 years. But, they fixed that in 05+.

As for the comparison between the two, I've never been a BMW fan. Personally, I find the style revolting and would rather drive the 90 Taurus...

If you buy an 07 sedan, the 335i would have a hard time keeping up...

Honestly the best thing you can do is set aside a saturday and go drive both cars back to back. Find out which one you like better for both ride, comfort and performance. BMW's have had their share of reliability issues, however, that is not till you get to higher mileage. Ironically this year marked the first year that consumer reports didn't mark lexus as one of their recommended buys and bmw and infiniti both did make it.

There are some nice things about owning a BMW, such as all your maintenance till 50k is covered. Thats oil changes and all services. And as a loaner they don't give you some ford, they give you another bmw. My boss and good buddy both own bmw's and have had no issues in the 3 years they have owned them and still give me a hard time for not getting one. Honestly I think bmw's tend to seem to break down more in their high mileage than other cars b/c their owners thrash and drive the cars more than others. I mean we all know that people that buy lexus branded cars arent' car enthuiasts, but like riding laz-e-boys with wheels.

Ok i'm done ranting here, my coffee needs to kick in......point is....go drive both on extended test drives. Ask the dealer if you can go by yourself and take one of the cars to the other dealership so you can compare them next to each other. At the end of the day you're going to be the one driving the vehicle, so you need to pick, not us. We all love our infiniti's very much, so we're gonna tell you to go that rout

Stock for Stock the G37 will keep up with the 335i the 07+ sedan will beat it.

The problem is finding a stock 335i to beat. Since the car already has 2 turbo chargers its very easy to modifiy for rediculous gains.

IMO turbo charging cuts reliability by 50% at least ( especially if I am driving). So if your buying a car to keep for 5-10 years by the G. If you are looking for a car to modify into a race car that you'll get rid of in a less then 4 years buy the 335i.

I think its great that BMW had to turbo charge their car so it could keep up with the G
