There isn't much action on the other part of the board soooo...

What did the L24 and L20 cranks come out of? Car, truck? What year(s)?

Datsun 810 and Maxima had an L24 from 1973 to 1984.

No, the L-series was a straight 6--the same motor from the legacy Z-cars.Forgot to mention the Z cars before, sorry. L24, L26, and L28 in those.

There was the Z-motor, in 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4 liter guise.

What I'm trying to get at is if the Z24 and Z20 cranks are interchangeable in the 2.4l block.

The Z-series was only in the 200sx and Pickup (720).

Ahh, the 510. Now I see where the confusion comes from. It had an L16, but it was indeed a 4-cylinder.

The 510 L motor is really a Z block with a different cylinder head.

I don't see why you couldn't swap the Z20 crank into a Z24 block.

EDIT:By the way, I'm not quite as knowledgeable as I appear...I've been cheating on the 510 motor info:http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/datsun_engines.htm

Thats my assumption too. I was pretty sure it was possible to interchange the 20 and 24 cranks in the 2.4l block for a larger/shorter stroke. Massive confusion... lol

That makes sense to me.

In case you didn't see my edit in my previous post, check out http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/datsun_engines.htm

BUT, seems like they're not entirely accurate, as they show a VG30i in the photo labelled VG30E. Not THAT big a difference, but certainly enough to notice.

I'm sure Bandit240 could provide better input.

Thanks for the link, I did catch the last edit. I was getting really confused because I could only find hybrid things on the 'net and no positive source. That, and I forgot the Z designates 4 cylinder. I got confused and for some reason related the Z car with 4 cylinders. Moron....

Thanks for all the help! I'm so bookmarking that site.

the lot of you sound rather confused!

the 510's made between 68-73 all had an L16. (4cyl)ALL zeds....240/260/280 all had 6cyl L-series....either a L20a, L24, L26, L28, L28ET.

there are a few versions of the L20 engine.....

L20A - 6cyl carbed ( JDM 200Z...same as a 260Z, but 2.0l )L20B - 4cyl carbedL20E - 6cyl EFI L20ET - 6cyl EFI Turbo ( early skylines )

how can the L series have a Z block????the L came first.....so really....the Z has an L-Block.and YES you can swap cranks between the L and Z motors. ( with the bigger cranks like Z24, you will need to do some machining to get the counter weghts to clear ).

You can even swap Z heads onto L blocks and vice versa.Z series motors were all 4cyl......and came in 180sx, 200sx, trucks, and 910 bluebirds
