The lights are on in my old 2004 M45 just after I buy it's upgrade, The Q70. So I've been driving the new Q70 around enjoying the new car feel and getting used to all the new gadgets and how it drives. After about a week of ignoring my old M45 I decided to start it and take it on a 30 mile errand and to get the fluid moving, charge the battery and pay attention to my 11 year favorite auto. It starts right up and is ready to go, so off we go. I'm coming home in my baby that I still love even though its getting older and notice the lights are on. Damn, in 11 years this car has never seen a dealer for anything. I've had the usual problems of high oil consumption and the TPS not working. I solved those problems by adding more oil (1 Quart ) between changes and ignoring the TPS lights. Now I notice the check engine, ABS and VCD lights are all on. What's it Christmas already? Poor old thing has something wrong to make not 1 but 3 lights come on. Hope it isn't terminal. I guess its finally going to the dealer. I can't ignore my old friend hot rod sleeper car. Any ideas what is wrong?

The only simple things that come to mind are loose battery connection or maybe brake fluid is dirty or just low. One of the auto shops can run the codes for you to help narrow down the cause.

Thanks,
I think what I am going to do is take it to my regular repair guy and ask him if he can handle it. If he can, off it goes to him. I would be nice if it was a nice cheap easy repair like a lose battery cable. I keep forgeting that mechanics today don't really do much except read codes. The old time guys who had to be able to listen to an engine run to figure out the problem are gone. If my guy reads the codes and decides his shop doesn't do the work it needs it still may wind up at the Infiniti dealer. He'll read the codes and charge me again then decide if he can do the work. If not the big gun, highest tech who attended the most classes will do his analysis as the bill continues to grow. Finally a solution will pop out after 3-9 parts are installed and bingo happens and the car is fixed. Now I get the real big bill with the code reading, analysis, many part replacement plus a free cleaning and car wash to calm me down after I see the bill and get my credit card out to pay. Car repairs today are really a nice case of highway robbery that is legal. Instead of retiring I should have gone to mechanics school and gotten a real job instead of going to college and becoming a lawyer.

ABS and VDC lights illuminate when the check engine light comes on. The system enters a "fail safe" mode and disables those systems. I have no idea why it was designed that way, but it was.

I feel the same as you. Just got a m56 and ol beauty stays covered and gets driven occasionally. But I'll never get rid of her if I can help it.

I started getting those codes/lights when my sensors went bad and the car went into limp mode.

My local mechanic told me it was not the check engine light but another one he could not remember at the time. That the codes told him it was a TPMS sensor that has been out for about 2 years. Part = $400 and a 2 day wait to get part from dealer. This all sounds like I heard it all before. We will see, as now my local guy has it and he won't quit or charge until it's fixed. Maybe I would have been better going to the dealer which is where I have a funny feeling I am going to wind up there in a few more days anyway.

I can tell you the entire problem in one word, JEALOUSY! She saw you bring a younger, sexier, curvier, "faster" thing around, and saw you paing more attention to her. So she said...

'Hell no, you're not going to just jump in me all willy nilly after you havent touched me in God knows how long, after you've had your hands on her and not expect me to throw a fit. 12 years I've been loyal to you, and this is how you do me. I'm going to give you all the warning signs to make sure this never happens again. Don't get complacent with the attention and affection I need....or I'll take you for all your worth'

It's all the same one way or another.

who are you using in hartford to fix your car? I might need to go there instead of using HARTE. i already paid HARTE over 1.4k in repair so i really don't want to repeat that again.

Dayhill Auto in Windsor, exit 38 off 91 on Dayhill Road. I highly recommend them. Two brothers own the shop. I just bought a q70 and I am letting them do the first oil change. My 2 Infiniti's, the other one is a 2004 M45, never go to Harte unless they absolutely have to. Let me know how Dayhill works out for you. i have been using them since the 80's.

Have you used or heard of GNR motorsport? They used to be up in Manchester but now relocate down to East Hartford. I went and saw Carlos. He was spot on the vacuum leak and the location.

Finding a tech that knows the m45 is rare. I think I'll take a drive over and talk to him myself. Now my heater and AC seem not to be working as they original did.
