I guess that's why these cars sold for so much new.

My car now has 165k, I bought it with 72k.

At about 105k, ONE TIME, I started it and it just cut out and died immediately. Wouldn't turn for about 10 seconds, then was fine.

At about 135k, ONE TIME, the same thing happened.

Never happened before or since. When it happened, there were no power issues whatsoever, and the motor had full power in turning.

Anyone else every experienced this?

Check the seating of your MAF connector and the condition of the contacts.

agreed, sounds MAF-ey... was the car warm or cold when this happened?

Cold both times, neither freezing winter conditions.

I'll have a look at the MAF. It's just so odd it would resolve itself with in 10 seconds both times, with 0 effort from me short of turning the key.

Check the connector and its wiring very carefully!

hmm that almost seems like a flooding issue...? had you done any short trips or started the car for a very short time (less than 1 minute) last time it happened?

in my experience most MAF related stalling problems show up warm not cold.. most commonly hot soak

On the first occasion, the car had sat for 6 hours in 50 degree weather.

On the second, it was a cold start from 14 hrs previously.

It's never so much as hinted at it since, so I'm not complaining!

Reminds me of my first S13 that I bought. Guy said that it had a transmission leak and then one day it just stopped on its own.

After it was "healed" did you ever flush the transmission?

What was the color and smell of the fluid?

I think enough varnish finally built up and plugged up the seal?
