Old AFC question

Hi. Tech dudes. I got an old Apexi AFC from japan runnin straight from the MAF. It has a dial for "car select" on the back. 12345678ABCDE. I left it on 6 and it seems to run ok-(knocking/white smoke before install) I would just like to know what it should be at. As far as the A/f control goes, I have it at max 26%. It seems to run best. Wierd, because I have the stock Maf on there. Keep in mind this is the old one with one dial and no readout.
