Same price

G35 - 36K miles.

M45 - 60K miles.

I don't know much about the M45. Are they good cars? Are the M45s good for 100K+ miles? The cars will be a daily driver for work. No mods. Maybe exhaust muffler at best.

I know enough about the G35. I like it. Is the M45 better? Is "more" always better in this case?

It depends on how many miles you drive a yr. If you drive a lot then the G35 would seem to be the value. But if you are talking about driving experience I've driven both, the M45 is in a whole different league from the G35

What Dr. GJE said...

The G is smaller and seems a little more cramped to me but it sure makes up for it with quickness. Interior road noise is more pronounced and the ride, seats and interior fitments are a bit more stiff. On long trips, I'm glad I went with the M. I have 66K on mine.

The pedal-to-the-carpet torque feeling from the M gives me perma-smile where as the G is "fun" for a second or three.

The G will have more for aftermarket options than the M due to sales volume and to that point, there's thousands of 'em out there. You'll see only a few first gen Ms and only a few more 2nd gen Ms out there, so if a fairly unique bodystyle and limited production vehicle is of any value to your, go M.

The M will cost a bit more to maintian however. Get a little less mpg and REQUIRES premuim fuel. If that's an issue to you financially, don't go M...however the G will not be "cheap" to maintain either compared to a Tercel or Civic.

Is there a color preference, both have NAV?

Hows the leather holding up on both? Check the undersides of both for hidden damage or repairs. Check that the M has the underside engine cover that protects the oil pan and suspension parts.

How's the spare tire's condition? Both are full size spares?

Go to the dealer and ask for the maint record history on both. If they won't print it for you, they should at least tell you what's been done. Don't be alarmed if the M was brought in for oil consumption issues. It's a known issue that does not typically affect the longevity of the engine.

Yes, both can go to 100K.

"M" is for Man by the way....."G" is for ...well...you know.

Adding on to what Double E and GJEMD.

I think it will also come down to if you want a 2 door or 4 door, coupe or sedan, sport or luxury.

I've read about some pretty horrendous brake issues with the 04 G's.

I was looking at a 05 G before i got my 06 M and the brake issues scared me away from the early model G's.

From what i read pads and rotors were only lasting 20K miles or so. Seems crazy that Nissan could screw up something like brakes.

One of the first things I did when i picked up mine, (used) was to put on slitted & dimpled rotors & red stuff pads. The rotors that were on it were warped.

Of course, a few months later & I had already warped the new rotors (my mistake) so now I just live with it and may get the original ones turned before I get new ones.

My old I30t had junk for OEM brakes too and I used the same brand slotted & dimpled rotors on it with great success.

search the other posts for more, but I had warped rotors as well; replaced them with Frozen Rotors and HBC pads -- AMAZING difference AND lifetime guarantee against warpage.
