Wait, you paid $250 for a non-factory unit? I bought a factory-"remanufactured" alternator from Joe a little while back. It showed up brand spanking new, just like my "remanned" Bose speakers. And I think it cost about $235 (plus shipping, no tax). Of course, you have to send in your old one. Joe will make it all better. Call him at 1-888-216-5328. And if you need anything else for your car, now's the time to go on a shopping spree for your Q.

I'd still pound the hell out of the parts store for a refund... especially if they mis-represented the one you bought as "new"!!!

How long since the failure? If it's only a few months since you got it you might be able to contest the charge on your credit card if you used one... otherwise you could get the store's "home office" or your state's attorney general or department of consumer affairs involved.

The more people who buy alternators at discount stores the fewer cores are returned to dealer/factory for rebuilding therefore quite common to open a oem rebuilt box and find a pristine new alternator. Hitachi does what is necessary to fill the Nissan order for remans.

The problem is Hitachi doesn't sell the diode packs or regulators to other rebuilders so they must substitute a Chinese clone electronic pack which may or may not last.

Many rebuilders just clean and replace bearings/brushes leaving the old electronics in place if they work.
