Reason I ask is because my gas tank has a little crack in it, and I need to drive my car to work until the weekend. It barely leaks at all when there's no pressure in the tank....but when I drive it awhile, or it sits in the hot sun for awhile, it will drip out constantly.

Is it okay to drive the car without a gas cap, or without pressure in the tank? Will that lower my fuel pressure or cause any wierd problems? Just don't want to hurt anything, Thanks.

i would leave it on but loose should really hurt anything with it off either. i see plenty of people driving with it hanging off the car and they seam to do just fine. fix the problem ASAP

It's not recommended for long term, but if you just need to get to the weekend, you should be fine. Just don't go out and redline the car

Cool, just wanted to make sure you didn't have to have pressure inside the tank. I know I need to get it fixed asap, need to either patch it good or find a new tank. Looks like hell to change the tank out though.

Is it true our gas tanks are like 2 seperate tanks, that go over the driveshaft and everything? Anybody have a picture of the s14 gas tank? Thanks.

one time coming home from my folks house with my girl, i got gas right before i left town. got about an hour down the road and got into some twisties. railed a couple of turns, and my girl and i look at each other and at the same time asked "do you smell gas"? turns out i forgot to put my cap on, first and only time ive ever done it. sloshed fuel down the side of the car, but it ran fine. make sure to leave it on so fuel doesnt come out, but you can relieve pressure just fine.

My friend left his gas cap off and his fuel door open in his sable...then went to a brushless car wash.

hopefully there's enough ethanol in the gas to absorb the amount of water that got in.

They make this tube of stuff that you can buy at like advance auto that seals cracks underwater and will hold up to pressure. You could maybe use that till the weekend or whenever you get it fixed. I think it would work.

it happened to me, i went to wisconsin with a friend to go fishing and we woke up at 4, i had like 4 hours of sleep and we got lost.. im driving half asleep and we stop to fill up.

i forgot was even filling up my car and drive away, with all the luck in the world i put the hose back on machine, but forgot to put the cap back in..

5min later i remembered and we went back, it was craced but still worked.

I've seen so many different types of epoxies and sealers, that I didn't know what to use. Quick steel said it was made for gas tanks, so I thought it would work....maybe I have more than 1 crack or something. It sure is a pain though.....

i doubt having no pressure in your tank will cause any problems. think about what happens when you leave a jarry can in a hot garage and go to open it up, you can hear air exiting. im sure the caps sole purpose is to keep everything inside. but i would get that fixed
