okay just bought (december 2nd) a 1991 black 240sx LE fastback. Okay... heres the deal... it's a 1991 with a 1993 motor in it... 5 speed... leather interior... sunroof...power everything... payed 1700 for it... it's in surprisingly good condition... could use a paint job but what 1991 with over 200,000 miles on the chassis doesn't? no dents... no broken stuff.. almost everything works flawlessly. Okay motor has 80,000 on it... has a brand new oem clutch... everything is stock about the car...

question 1....

i put some 17x7.5 inch onsoku racing rims on it... 215/40/17 in the back and 205/40/17's up front... now the car looks like it's got a SKYJACKER lift kit on it... is this normal? i've got a good 6-7 inch fender gap on the front and about 5 in the back... now i've looked at lowering springs and the greatest drop is only like 2.0 inches or so... now that'll still leave me with like a 4 inch fender gap.... how do you guys slam your rides? i've noticed a couple other 240's around that are lowered and their rims are practically tucked... they said they just used lowering springs...

question 2....

i've got the analog gauge cluster... redlines at 6900 everything works fine with the tach and the fuel gauge and temp gauge... BUT my speedo doesn't work... well it works sometimes... sometimes not... sometimes it just flucuates... goes up to current speed... drops off... then over shoots... i was going like 70 tonight on the highway... read 70... then half second later read 35.. then about 2 seconds later read 95... the needle just goes where it wants to go... i've read the speedo problem is fairly common in the DIGITAL guages... but haven't read anything about the analog gauges... also odometer is stuck at 196,000+ the tripmeter works.. but the odometer don't move...

question 3...

my drivers side automatic seat belts don't move... i can move the buckle all the way along the track.. i can hear the motor workin... but the buckle don't move...

question 4...

did any s13 come with a POWER sunroof? i don't like the flip up thingy... i had a 2001 hyundai tiburon custom turbo'd pushing .5 bars of boost putting 223.9hp to the ground i got kinda use to everything workin... no rattles... no weird noises... power sunroof...but i blew the motor and decided to strip the car and had it auctioned off... is there a power sunroof i can install?

question 5...

heater.... it works on all settings except 4 on the speed adjustment... when i turn it to 4 it turns off... any ideas?

okay that's about it... i guess i can leave it at that... any ideas... or fixes would be very much appreciated...

whats the offset on the wheels?

my guess would be try more tire under there on top of lowering, the tire sizes you have now are too little. a lot of people i have seen with that wheel size have 225/45-17s all the way around, that would help

1) Yeah, get fatter tires and some real coilovers.

2) Get a new gauge cluster

3) You can bring that to the nissan dealership and theyll fix it, auto seatbelts have a lifetime warranty on them

4) Didnt people tell you? Rattling gives the car character

5) Not sure on it, but it might be your HVAC resistor thingy under your glovebox that regulates the amount of resistance to the HVAC to determine how much air comes out.

the speedo problem may also be the speed sensor in the transmission, its hard to tell without the car in front of us to really diagnose it

okay offset on the wheels is 38 i believe.... they fit fine... don't stick out none and have plenty of clearance on the inside...

okay i'll take the car to the nissan dealership... life time warennty on the seat belts coool.

well i'm thinkin of pulling my rims off... i'm gonna get some 18x8's for the car... gonna go with 245/50 in the back and 235/45 up front...

my friends gonna go ahead and cut the springs so i can see how much of a drop i need... then i'll just order a set of REAL coilovers and adjust from there... thinkin of baggin the car... you guys probably hate that idea... but it's for show... not gonna be driving the car that much... i'm getting an suv in january so this cars just a toy

the blower for the heat... i guess i can just live with it at #3 setting... it don't get that cold here in sc anyways

about the power sunroof... more info please...

4) Only coupes come w/ power sunroof - coupe powerrrrrr. I believe the only thing you get factory for fastbacks is the pop top.

There's advantages tho, you have much better head clearance in a fastback than coupe. So when the racing seats come in (if you ever decide to do that), you won't have as much a problem as the coupe guys.

Dont waste your time with spring set ups, get coilovers, get another gauge cluster or check speed sensor, trouble shoot seat belts, you are stuck with pop up sunroof, think about this way, is another failing winding motor you wont have to worry about it.....oh also get an FSM they are your best friend and will save you money on the end....

with the heater problem check the fuse!! 1,2,3 are connected to the resistor card by the blower motor. The 4th setting is connected to the fusebox on the drivers side. Think its a 15a or blue one but it takes 2 fuses and its labeled blower fan or motor I think....hope that helps

welcome to the world of rattling....

I have different rattling noise at each RPM range.... *sigh* you kindda get used to blocking out the sound. Or invest in loud stereo.

Yea check your spd sensor first. Then your gauge cluster. I had a malfunctioning speedo as well and I thought it was the spd sensor but it turns out its the cluster. When I hold the trip meter button the gauge works and when I let it go it doesnt. So check before you start replacing things
