I took my car to the shop to ask them if they can do a swap for me on my crippled ka24de. I am thinking about getting a jdm motor like an sr20det or something of the sort but the guy was telling me that for the price i could be able to get the same power out of the ka just by doing a rebuild on it. My concern is what little components might be wrong with my motor is it worth trying or is the jdm motors a pretty safe bet?

It is highly unlikely that you'll get a non-turbo ka to match the power output of a stock sr. I've reached that point but only after dropping a lot of money in the bucket. However, from what I've heard, its getting more rare to find an sr in really good condition. So a rebuild of an sr might be in order too.So the main questions are: what are your power goals, and what are you willing to spend?Spend your money on rebuilding the ka and you can prep it for turbo- pretty easy to make 200+whp with some work and tuning; or make some NA mods to give it a bit of extra oomph.Spend your money on an imported sr and you could end up with a solid engine worth 200+bhp (with potential to make more), or you could end up spending more to rebuild that if its not in good condition. Obviously, if you go the sr route, do your research, make sure the importer is established and has good customer service (ask other NICO members where they got theirs).Good luck with whatever you choose.

for 200 hp and 3k ide say rebuild the ka and turbo it.

you alredy have all the wiring and such needed to run the eletronics for the ka. a full basic rebuild will prolly set u back arround 1500 or thats at least the prices ive seen arround here and u can get a turbo set up goin for arround 1k and that should make 200 hp easy.

just my opion tho.

Depends on what kind of turbo you want to use.

Read up at the KA-T forums, lots of good information there.
