The Evo's are taking over Nassau! there are more Evo 2's & 3's than you can shake a stick at now there's a 4, AND NOW A YELLOW 8 ! 240's 200's 180's and silvia's popping up too.....so I got to thinking.

What do you guys think it would take for a silvia to beat an EVO?

I tell ya....I don't have an Evo or a Silvia.....my fav cars....dammit...I'm gonna buy one sooooooooooon!

"Beat" is a loose term.

1/4 mile? Stoplight race? Top speed? Slalom? Road course?

1/4 mile, stoplight race, impromptu race on the street early in the morning.

Scince Nassau only has a drag strip, and not a lot of curves to race around...let's do straight line performance first

Well, you're going to need a fairly good turbo setup to beat an evo (or a top-of-the-line N/A build). A KA-T or SR with a 3" exhaust, a fair amount of boost, and an intercooler should probably do it, as long as your engine is in good shape and you're a decent driver. S13's are about 500-600lbs lighter than an EVO(depends on what model evo), so you don't need nearly as much power to go just as fast. However, AWD will give the EVO a huge launch advantage, but it's certainly doable. On a road course, you should slay an evo if you know how to drive a FR car.

um, news flash but the EVO 8 is extremely fast around a road course...and they dip far into the 12's with a boost controller and I/E from what i hear

the evo weighs i thnk 3200 ish? the S13 is 2600 ish..so that's aroudn 400 lbs give or take

the EVO also has AWD...you're gonna need a bigger turbo then stock in a silvia to beat an evo

Interesting...Sounds like a lot of money What size turbo would you say is nice? I could get a boost controller easy lol.

think a turbo bluebird SSS Attesa could keep up in the mix? my nissan peeps all think we have a chance of whipping those Evo's. maybe we should all get 3S's and whip on the evo guys lol

It will take a lot of money to get a 240sx/Silvia to beat a decently modded EVO. You'll need everything included in a turbo upgrade, possibly internals to handle higher boost, I'd try to make the car as light as possible, with fiberglass/carbon fiber body panels, strip the interior, etc. A little suspension work for better launches, good wheels and tires. Nitrous couldn't hurt either. Anyways, the early model EVOs aren't as heavy as the newer ones and they could also shed weight also. Since we don't have the older EVOs in America, I don't know what the going rate is on one. If it's cheaper than or as cheap as a 240sx/Silvia, I'd consider getting one. In America, since we only have the EVO VIII, the 240sxs have a distinct cost advantage. A guy I went to high school with spent (his parents' money) $30000 for the car (he actually owns it) and $30000 more modding it, and now he has a 10 second car. However, you can buy a 240sx anywhere from a couple hundred to probably 8 thousand tops. That gives you more than $50000 to work on the 240sx, so I'm sure you could make a 10 second car with that kind of money. So, at least in America, dollar for dollar, 240sx is the faster car.

I think the answer to all of those questions is: "a hell of a lot of money!".

Evo is without question an awesome car (and it should be for the $$$). Despite the weight, from what I've read the Evo is starting off with a pretty capable and stiff chassis. The 240SX, as we know, not so much.

Anyway, just build a car that you'll like to drive. Someone is always going to have a faster ride, just enjoy your car.

If you know how to drive a FR car properly, you will walk all over an AWD car on a road course. Especially with a 500+ pound weight advantage. As for 12's with an exhaust and boost controller, I highly doubt it. Maybe 12.9999999 or something.

Quote »the evo weighs i thnk 3200 ish? the S13 is 2600 ish..so that's aroudn 400 lbs give or take
Use math much? 3200-2600=600. s13's weigh 2700, though, and older evos were heavier than the new ones.

Quote »the EVO also has AWD...you're gonna need a bigger turbo then stock in a silvia to beat an evo
I already addressed AWD in a drag, and no, you probably won't need a larger turbo.

I think, without actually driving an EVO, we can't really compare the 240 with the EVO. To me the EVO seems to be a very very capable car and it's new, our cars are 10-15 years old. Even so, our cars will put up a hell of a fight which I feel, is more then enough to say how capable our cars are.

And lesser models of the S13 weighed in at about 2560 I believe. Slightly closer to 2600 than 2700.

Yeah, it's kind of like speculating whether Batman could beat the crap out of Wolverine (no freakin' way)...or not.

I don't have any friends with EVO's, so I can only speculate based on what I've seen and read. The EVO has put down impressive numbers in almost every category you can think of. Every review I've read has raved about the handling.

I've got a friend who's thinking of getting rid of his highly modded WRX...maybe I can get him to test drive an EVO. Naturally, I'll have to come along to errr... help him evaluate the car.

I'd be interested to see someone knowledgeable in the subject compare the Evo MR's AWD system to Nissan's latest version of Attessa.

Yeah but the S13 is a 17 year old design, the EVO8 is brand spanking new and has every mechanical and technological advantage over the 240sx or Silvia or 180sx. More power, more brake heat capacity, faster spool, more traction, better suspension, heck it even comes with kickass tires stock.

i agree with xns, so let's try comparing an s15 with an evo8, i think that would be a better comparison. both new cars, turbo, yada yada yada....i love my s13 and with a turbo and oh i don't know 15 psi, i think i could take an evo around my area...people don't know how to really drive evo's either, correct me if i'm wrong but every evo driver i've seen sucks at driving.s13 power!!!

the evo8 isn't the problem it's all those 2's and 3's running around I wanna at least keep up with. heck....I found a SSS Attesa I'm contemplating on buying if I could gather the money...

but I'd most likely stick with a Silvia/180SX...

AND which sponsor is the best to buy a transverse SR20DET and transmission from? (just in case I buy a bluebird ARX-G AWD SR20DE auto blah blah)

I assume one from the S13. DrifterXRPS13, the Evo drivers around here are pretty bad, but their parents' money to spend on mods more than makes up for their driving. Bill w/ the black EVO can do 10s. Jared w/ the silver should be able to do 11-12.
