OK to drill holes on right side of transmission hump?

I'm needing to install something in my car today, and the install requires me to drill a couple of holes in the right side of the transmission hump, facing the passenger side.

Will it be OK for me to just place the bracket in the appropriate spot and drill two small holes? Are there any 'hotspots' with wires or lines that I should worry about? I'm guessing that I should be fine, but you guys know how guessing goes - wondering if anybody else has any thoughts on the subject.

The screws will protrude less than 1/2" through the sheet metal.

Is it one of those butterfly valves for the exhaust?

Richard Tang had one on his car, mounted there, so it seems like it would be ok, just watch out for the important stuff.

It's actually a laptop mount that I'm building tonight - gotta have a rig to hold it so I can tune. :)
