OK time to put some pics and info up on my Turbonetics turbo install.

First of all i chose the Turbonetics kit because it was something i could do at home in my own garage. On that note DON'T attempt this if you havent had a good amount of mechanical experience.

Turbonetics claims that the kit is a 8-10 hour install. BULLPUCKY!!!After 5 days working from about 4-12pm its pretty much done with the exception of a few plastic shields i will put back on after its tuned on monday.

Some of the problem is that the kit is designed for 03-05 G35's so there was quite a bit of massaging to get certain things to fit.

The only advice i can give on installing this kit is go buy yourself lots of header heat wrap. All the up and down piping runs very close to the drivers side AC pump and lines.

The directions provided with the kit did a fairly good job of explaining all steps.

Ok so here are some pics.

Just got the kit home

All the guts of the box

new heart

Intercooler

Heat wrap everything you can

Me on the right and my good friend Ray who helped me through the whole thing. Thanx Ray!

I will try and get some video and some more pics of the Dyno Tune. As of right now im just putting around town on the stock ECU so cant open it up and build any boost yet. The stock kit comes set for 10Lbs but ill have it tuned to about 8-9 to be safe.

Cheers!

Man that is sweet!

What do you think you'll pick up hp wise?

Any other plans? water/meth injection is always a great compliment to boost :-)

I ordered it through Alamo Autosports in Arlington TX. Turbonetics doesnt make a kit for the 06 but it will fit with small modifications. You will need to buy a ECU system because there is no flash for an 06 factory ECU.

It should pickup 160 hp.

The kit itself cost about $6000 then i bought about $100 worth of heat wrap and a few tools here and there. Oh and a boost gauge for another $60. I had purchased my emanage ultimate a few months ago from another friend for around $300 and the plug and play harness cost another $175 or so. Ummm i think thats about it. It aint cheap thats for sure.

Don't get me wrong... I love my Infiniti But i could buy a two year older than mine... 04 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG with 490hp and 540lbs of tq. for the cost of my Infiniti plus the 7k on the trubo... Not to mention that I am handy and wouldn't have to spend money on the install.I feel No need to change my 298 Hp G35 I like it for what it is.

My .02

Hey but I wish you the best with your turbo

Yes you could buy a Merc but then you would have to drive around in that ugly gramma car and have all your friends laugh at you. Id rather sink a buncha money into a nice looking G35 and have something that i custom built myself. I love the clean lines of the G. Im not done yet i got lots more plans for future mods and i guarantee that i will eat any 490 HP Merc for a snack.

No other mod will add asmuch HP as forced air except mybe a 120 shot of NOS which im not a fan of. Im not sure on the specs of the superchargers they really just arent my thing. The cost of the Greddy twin turbo and the fact that them pretty snails are all hidding down under the engine. Dont get me wrong id love to see some of those setups but they just arent for me. I would recomend a supercharger just for ease of install and it still adds about the same HP as the Turbo. I wont be happy until im pushing 450 at the rear wheels. Thats comming from a old school V8 background.

Hope this is good motivation for other members to try some mods on thier own. Its much more fulfiling to have installed this turbo on my own. Although i must say after day 2 I was saying to myself SELF WTF are you doing!

Do you know how much it would cost you if something goes wrong with the 04 Chrysler E55 AMG?

I so cant wait to get it on the dyno the guys said it will take them a couple days to get t tuned properly. The kit comes set for 10lbs but thats a little much on stock internals. Down the road i will do the rest of the engine but for now its gonna have to wait. I just hope i dont called back to work before i get a chance to play with it. So far im really surprised there isnt even so much as a drip or vaccume leak that has appeared. Im heading to Ft Worth today to spend some time with the little lady since she has had to endure not seeing me for the past week and dealing with all my friends that drop by to track dirt from the garage through the house. Can't wait for some video. Oh and i did wind it up just a little enough to hear that sexy blow off valve!!! its hornifying

since when can you get an 04 amg e55 for the price of your infiniti? i got my fully loaded 07 g35-s for under 38k (prem, nav, tech packages)...i am pretty sure you cant get an 04 e55 amg for under 40k unless that person drove 50,000 miles/year

did the entire fuel system need revamping, or was it just a simple injector swap?

It was alot more than just an injector swap. Needed to pull the fuel pump out of the tank and install a high Cap pump. Needed to modify one of the intake pipes, Bend and shape some AC Lines, Cut some plastic around the Rad and grind some meat out of the aluminium bumper for the intercooler to fit in. I still need to modify my air filter pipe into the turbo so i can plug in my drivers HD headlight.

I will be installing a set of guages for boost temp and oil pressure. Its hard to find a route through the firewall to run lines. Sure miss workin on older cars for that reason.

yea i thought so. i was just asking because i only saw a pic of the injectors, thinking that that's all you needed to upgrade. stupid me.

anywhoo, just out of curiosity...

any turbo lag?mpg hit rock bottom?overheating?

So far im still running on stock ECU until monday when i take it in to be tuned. I havent been over 3000 rpm with it yet. I drove 30m to Ft Worth lastnight and no problems. It runs cool. less throttle input when going up hills it probably burns a little more fuel because its running with bigger injectors and not tuned. Im not too concerned about fuel economy. We just got a new gas station near the race track here that carries race fuel so i will start burning that and see how it performs.

cool...

just wondering, shouldn't the ECU adjust itself? or does it have no idea that you have bigger injectors?

speaking of injectors, what was the stock size, and what did you upgrade to?

excuse my relentless questioning. :

the ecu cant adjust for larger injectors that i know of, they simply hold the injector open longer which on bigger injectors means realoly rich running. it might try to pulse the injectors less, but i doubt if hes pushing it past 3k rpms that its really building much boost on the turbo anyway.

cant wait to see the numbers after the dyno tune,

Stock injectors are 290's and the ones that came with the turbonetics kit are 380's. The ECU will do its best to compensate but it still runs rich. Thats all I hear these days from the little woman is WHY THE HELL DOES THAT THING STINK SO BAD? Also i got rid of my cats.
