So anyway, I do remember this day it was raining like crazy and I had just dropped my dad off at Cleveland Clinic and decided to head for a ride around downtown Cleveland, until his appointment was over...to be honest I may have been speeding, i don't know... but I remember it was raining pretty good so the whole trip was slow, and as usual Cleveland is dead as a doornail during the day......anyway, is there any way at all to fight this...I mean its no points so no insurance notification...i'm just not sure of freely handing over 100 bucks if I wasn;t speeding...anyway....take a look and let me know if its even worth the effort...

IMHO I think it is my Steelers license plate frame...damn mistake on the lake...lol Cleveland's not too bad but the Browns still suck! I'll take Pittsburgh anyday!

So here's what it says about speed violations:

For speed violations, detection loops buried in the pavement detect the vehicles passing over them. Using sophisticated measurement tools, the speed f each vehicle is calculated (Pretty Vague huh?) If the vehicle speed is above the threshold set for the particular location, the camera system takes pictures of the event and records the accompaning data.

Wow, great explanation...

I'll post some pics and a vid

Ok after reviewing the vid I may have been going a bit fast but I don't think it was ridiculous...It wasn't on purpose...oh well you guys/gals be the judge

Rob i don't think radar blocker is going to help if the trap sensor is in the ground and most likely magnetic

It's a spray which goes on your plates. When the camera flashes, it reflects and I'm assuming your plate will not be readable by the camera. Now I don't know how effective this would be though, especially on a bright day.

The link Rob supplied was actually for a spray-on gloss. The idea is that the cameras they used to take your license plate number will use a flash and the light from that flash will bounce back and will distort and prohibit the authorities from reading your plate. Think of it as taking a picture of yourself straight on in a mirror.. the flash comes back and you can't see anything.

EDIT- got beat to it

Exactly, in regards to taking pictures, it basically justs causes the camera to overexpose when taking the pic. It supposdto work on cameras that utilize a flash (like the ones in Baltimore)... I know all cameras aren't the same in every city, but if your city employs one of the flash cameras, then this is a great way to prevent your self from getting a ticket.

I know the LEO's on here may not approve, but its a bit similar to using a radar detector ... well no, it would actually be more similar to radar jammers IF radar jammers really worked (which I think we all know they don't)

In nay case, I know traffic laws are around for very good reasons, but sometimes, with the cameras, they catch you when driving through a yellow light, or when going just a few miles per hour over the limit. In linknuc's case, from the video, it really didn't seem like he was going that fast at all!

They tried all of these products and methods on an episode of Mythbusters and they did not work. They tried sprays and plate covers were unable to fool the camera everytime.

are you going to fight it? btw slow down in the rain. Ive found that the coupes tires have a tendancy to hydroplane, at least the stockers on the 2.5. There are a few things you can do.

I don't know if I have a case it looks like i was going about as fast as the traffic on the other side...i dunno if it was 35mph there I was probably doing between 35 and 40...I see no reason to speed in that situation anyway...especially because I was killing time while my dad was getting his tests done...I was as you can see about 70 streets from downtown on the way over I was probably doing 55-60 on I-90 and the limit is 65...it was really rainy..

granted I usually travel at 5mph over in good conditions but not in town just on freeway etc...

oh well I have to see what court costs are I may just pay it online and be done with it, i dunno...

Personally i wonder if that van got a ticket too. Cause it seems like they are further into the intersection than you are.

I know I'm probably the a-hole cop at the forefront of everyone's mind right now, so just for the record, I HATE speed cameras, red-light cameras, etc.

I've never gotten a ticket from one, but I think you'd have a pretty good chance of fighting it though.

i would say fight it...

but at least contact a local attorney that deals frequently with traffic violations... see what they say.. usually the inital consultation is free..

because i would think if u pay for the ticket then u are admitting guilt... and do they have it in writing.. that its not going against your license and insurance in reference to points? i would ask for that documentation just in case u do decide to pay!

good luck bro!

Tickets issued by cops are actualy infractions/violations/misdemeanors. They will hold up in criminal court, but the city has the burden to prove their case against you. This is through the presentation of evidence via the officer's sworn testomony.

Who will testify in a camera ticket? No one. As a result, they are not criminal offenses. You usually aren't charged with a state statute related to your violation, but rather municipal ordinance (hence no points to DMV, etc.). The tickets are usually "administrative", meaning they won't have a trial before a judge. The violation is not criminal, so you'll most likely tell your case to some sort of hearing officer. They will likely operate under similar rules as a court of record. I would say get a lawyer, but it may be cheaper just to pay the thing. I detest camera tickets. They are absolutely nothing more than cities lining their pockets.

That's how things work here though...dunno about Ohio!

I wonder if one of those computer monitor privacy screens would work. It would allow the plate to be read if in a direct line of sight but if off to either side it would be unreadable. If they are plastic you could cit it to fit an place under one of the acrylic plate covers. If the aren't trimmable there are products out that will do the same thing and are available at optical supply sources.

Mythbusters tried it. That stuff doesnt work. None of the "license plate covers" work including the plastic ones. They work maybe like, 20 percent of the time but that spray doesn't work at all. The concept does, but not the product.

yea it was proved on mythbusters that none of those products work. only real thing that works its slowing down and following the speed limits...

I agree... The van was already further into the interestion in the first pic, but it looks like they travelled the same distance.

Argue that the sensor is messed up!

These traffic cameras are bogus. I "heard" that these cameras are installed, paid, and maintained by private contractors. Their payment is a percentage of your ticket. Wierd... The legality of paying a portion of your ticket to a private firm has come under a lot of scruntiny.

From an officers standpoint, first off plate blocking kits whether they work or not are illegal in all states as far as I know, and they dont work. Second, I too absolutely hate the idea of these cameras. I work in phoenix and theyre everywhere now. I had a speeding ticket by one of these, and the best thing you can do is inquire with the company who maintains these cameras. Fighting these gets a little pricey and Id reccomend traffic school, but I requested the calibration and test sheets from the cameras and the company could not produce them. these private companies are required to calibrate and test the cameras, and log everything as public record. This is the biggest factor that led to the dismissal, not me being a cop or anything. If your not worried about much then just pay the fine or do the school though. Theres tons of links on how to fight these, and working for the police department I would love to see these go away. do a search online for "radar roy"

Guys mythbusters isnt the end all be all in everything.Feel free to apply a quality high gloss paint film and you can see for yourself with any $5 camera that a flash sends back a white image... and if you are talking about the plate covers that have a scramble in them, you cannot read the tag if you are elevated like that... do the pepsi challenge then blow thru all the ezpass lanes!

1st of all, I-90 is 65 (remember I am coming from TrAshtabula County) it slows to 55 later...but nonetheless

2nd, Yes I was ticketed for 46 in a 35...the speedlimit changes depending where you are its 35 in some places, 40 in others and 45 in a few...

Ok from guys at work, no point in fighting it, its been tried, just buck up the 100 beans...and take no points...oh well...

The hearing is indeed in Cleveland Muni, so its not worth the bother...

Thanks anyway

Oh and Finally, The Car is damn sexay! Lol...thanks guys and gals!
