It is said the the V has a 1.8 engine that is new just for this car. The Sentra has a 2.0 which was a year ago new. Do you know how this important part of the two cars stack up as to power to weight ratio? and what are the important features of each?

Versa - 1:22.3Sentra - 1:20.8Sentra Spec V - 1:15.4

Sadly, the Spec V win in PTWR competition and the Sentra beats out the V.

You also have to remember to factor in gear ratios and and the engine's torque curve. The Versa will have sligtly lower gear ratios in it's 6 speed versus the Sentra. It would be interesting to see the torque corve for both cars. I think proportionally the Versa might be a little fatter comparatively speaking in the bottom end and lower midrange so it might give up less in performance than the numbers suggest.

I wouldn't think the power/TQ curves for the V and the base model Sentra would be that different. They are the same series of engine, the Sentra's is a hair larger. I didn't bother looking up bore and stroke, so I don't know which one is more oversquare and the other more undersquare.

The Spec V will have something completely different. It's not an MR series engine if I'm correct.

what about putting a MR20 into the V...how easy or difficult would it be?

You probably wouldn't need to swap the engines really. It's the same block. It's probably different crank shafts.

I'd expect that the Spec V is using the QR25 engine out of the Altima again. It's masaged for another 20 HP and more top end power compared to the torquey motor in the Altima.

I will admit, the Versa motor has me scratching my head a little. It's a oversquare motor, cut off 2 cylinders, flip it around, tilt it forward 30 degrees, add a counter blancer and and you'd have a descent motorcycle engine for a street fighter. They must be using long intake runners and smaller valves to get the low end and midrange performance. Also, where most companies use vairable valve timing to imrpove top end on a neigne designed more for midrange power, Nissan/Renault appear ot be using VVT to improve bottom end and midrange on an engine designed for top end power.

WIth a different set of heads, I bet Nissan could make the Versa motor into a EPA legal motor with around 160HP without turbocharging... but you'd give up some bottom end.
