The idiot I got my car from told me it had rod knock. Ok no big deal since I'm swapping drivetrain anywho. I just wanted to get it running and maybe drive it around awhile. I get it running again and take it down the block. Its making a funny squeal and a knocking noise different than rod knock. My buddy said check the torque converter, thats what it sounds like. I checked today with my clicker wrench and the bolts were loose. Unfortunately two of the four are stripped. I got one out. But I can not get the last one out. Now I've tried putting pressure on the flexplate while trying to back out the bolt by prying with a screwdriver. I suppose I could get the grinder out and see if it would fit, and grind the bolt head off.

But I'm guessing worst case scenario is that I have to pull the motor, transmission and all just to put this new torque converter in.

Or say screw it and wait for my q45 donor car. I really leaning towards this one.

My personal favorite, visegrips. I will try that.

What size is the bolt? If it's 19mm or smaller, I would use this damaged bolt removal kit from Sears. It worked like a charm for me, seriously. I can't tell you how greatful I am for these things.

Sorry I guess I should clarify. The threads in the torque converter is shot. The bolt head is fine. When I try to back it out or tighten it up it just turns. I'm going to try to wedge a very small screwdriver between the bolt head and the flexplate. Thats how we use to do it at H2 plant.

But ya I have the small craftsman bolt extractor kit, it works wonders.
