OK, so I didn't think my car was THAT fast...

So, tonight I was with my buddy who was doing a little work on his built SR in his S14 and then we went out and were going to tune my car a little, but it's pretty good (12:1 a/f's across).

So, as we were leaving, he decided he'd go out for a few highway pulls with me. NOw, his car runs VERY fast at the 1/8th mile track, he's pulled a 7.3 at 96 mph on the same tune!! He averages 7.5's when he goes (no 1/4 nearby).

So, we are at about 4500 in 2nd gear, and 3 beeps and we're off. I have a small header leak and when I punch it my tps makes the car go super-rich for some reason, so I spool slower. He instantly pulls 1 car on me, and then it's just about dead even, I may pull on him ever so slightly.

So, my car hangs with his, which is very capable of low to mid 11's in the 1/4! He's a great driver and uses slicks, so I could probably not run them easily myself at all, but just as a reference.

I was(still am) blown away by this!! He runs like 18-19 psi on a straight T4 on a built SR...I'm running 17.5-18psi on my setup listed in my signature.

!!! These 2.0's are fast!

i would love to have you fill me in on more detail about tuning your ecu w/ the romulator. did you have to socket your ecu?!?

Yeah, I'm not sure about RB25's or 26's, but the RB20 ecu has one eprom that you simply remove and put a socket in place. After that, you download that program onto your laptop, and then plug in the romulator into the laptop on one end, other end stays in the ecu socket you installed. Once you load the map, you are good to go and tune in realtime...as soon as you increase or decrease fuel, the car will idle differently..etc. It takes some learning to figure out where you are on the 16x16 grid since there is no map trace (tells you where you are on the map) but there is a newer version on the way that will have that feature.

Anyway, with a wideband, it's pretty easy. Type in injector size and which MAF you have and start tuning.

this is for the rb20det

after the tuning, i'm assuming you will need to load (burn) the map to the eprom for normal driving? i hate to have the labtop and the romulator continuesly plug into the ecu...

NOpe, you just unplug the laptop and the romulator stays in the car, I have mine tucked under the carpet under the dash with the ecu..it retains the info in its memory so the laptop is only needed for tuning.

good to know thanks!

have you try the software by 925style w/ the romulator? that software seem to be more in depth with tuning the ecu.

I can never get that software to work right w/o messing up on my pc. I'd like to try it out if I could get it to work.
