Hmmm ... 33mm to 35mm offset would have been better for your year M, but I think that 40mm will work for a 8.5" width too, but a bit close to the suspension for comfort. I will look at tire sizes later ... I am in the middle of something right now.

Whoops, I just noted that center bore. Nissan and Infiniti use a 66.06mm standard. Since the 73mm is larger, this will work, but you will need to be darn careful when mounting the wheel. There will be a lot of pressure on the lug nuts, since the center of the rim will not be properly supported. Please make sure to torque them right (about 83 to 87 ft-lbs.) and check often!

You may want to check with a wheel specialist if using a larger bore in this manner is okay (smaller would have been a show-stopper ... it would not have fit without reaming out!). I think it will work, but better to verify it by an expert.

Yes, a 245/35-20 will be a good size for that wheel. Please make sure to get a load index at 95 or higher ... the car is heavy and needs strong tires!

In 245/35-20, tires like the Bridgestone Potenza RE 050A Pole Position, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, Dunlop Sport Maxx (XL load index version), Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Pirelli Pzero, Yokohama Advan Sport are possible tires for you. All these are pretty expensive tires! There are some lower cost ones (like the Yokohama AVS ES100 ... but this is an old design) that may also work, but a few of them (like the Sumitomo HTR Z II) are too low a load index!

Note that such low aspect ratio tires need to be checked for correct pressure much more often than taller tires - every week is preferred, but at least every two weeks. There is less air in there to begin with and the pressure changes more than taller tires ... with outside temperature, normal weekly psi drops, etc! So, don't let a month go by between tire pressure checks. Run at 36 psi to get a good balance between load carrying capacity and edge/center wear.

Also, with 20" rims, you do not have any tire section profile tapering to help with tight fits. So, I think I would recommend a trial fit at some cooperative tire dealer if possible ... do remember to lower the car off the lift, put normal load on it and turn the wheel and check to to see if contact occurs with the suspension. The high 40mm offset still bothers me a bit with 8.5" rims ... it may work out just fine, but I am a bit concerned that it may not.

wow, there is so much info for buying wheels for this car? I know a few people on here running 22's on the M45 and the same year Q45!!! You guys have really opened my eyes to wheels buying. this is the first time i have bought wheels of this size. I have always had smaller cars and just had to run 18's

I ended up paying $900 for the wheels at a custom shop that i helped out alot with services in the past...i used to install TV's, DVD's when i was into the import tuner scene heavy when they first opened and had nobody ...so they gave me a major discount, i think the retail on the wheels is like $1500 or higher?

Serious thanks for the tire info guys....Once taxes are here...i let you guys know with pics!!!!!!!!

True for any car really. It is just that heavy cars need special care, since the wrong rims or tires could be seriously unsafe!

What is the bolt pattern for an 07 M35 sport? Looking to install 20" rims but I am wondering will there be any clearance problems?

Welcome to NICO!

The information on the wheel dimensions is in my Basic Specs sticky at the top of this forum.

20" rims are definitely possible. You just need to get the right offset and to make sure to get a strong rim (the car is heavy) with the correct load index tires.

I looked at the tech articles and all I found were the specs for an 06 M35. Do they have the same bolt pattern. I keep hearing to make sure the rims are strong enough, how can I make sure that it is. Is there one thing in particular that I should be looking for.

Ah, sorry. Yes, the 2006 and 2007 have the same rims and same bolt pattern and hub bore size (Infiniti uses the standard 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern for all their current cars). So, the offset listed for the 2006 still apply as far as I know ... I will update my sticky sometime soon!

Rim strength is tough to quantify and measure. The point is that the car is around 4000 lbs plus or minus a few! That, plus the dynamic impacts as you go over bumps, potholes, etc., means that weak rims are likely to get damaged fairly easily when going over simple potholes, etc. Or go out of round and need serious balancing weights to compensate for the errors, even assuming that the wheel does not crack or bend.

Generally, getting expensive forged rims, from reputable manufacturers and brands, means that you will end up with something that is appropriate for the M. Some of the lesser name-brands should be avoided, particularly if the brand focuses on cheap (but large 20" and 22" sizes) for the low-cost market.

The problem is that the reputable manufacturers wheels cost a lot of money! That, plus the fact that the 20" and 22" rims use very low-aspect ratio tires (expensive and not always available in the correct load index) means that the ride is modified ... sometimes considerably harsher due to the smaller side-wall and less air in the tire. Keeping the tire pressure correct becomes far more essential too.

So, I am not sure whether it is a good idea to change the wheels or not. Personally (and this is an opinion, so take it with the appropriate dose of reality), I'd way rather stick with the stock OEM wheels (because they look pretty decent anyway) and spend my money on excellent to outstanding tires. That is ultimately far more important for performance than anything else.

So, for me (and I emphasize the "for me" ... YMMV), wet weather handling, braking, road holding, etc., are better criterion for spending money on wheels and rims, than the looks! Yes, I compliment people on their wheel choices, if they look better than OEM (which is entirely possible), but I am not likely to follow the same example!

I am considering a purchase from the stock wheels on my 2003 M45.

Here is a deal that I found, and would like some opinions on how well these would work.

Rims = Hypersilver 18x7.5 5-100/114.3 +40mm 72.62mm

Tires = 235-4018 Diamond Back Tires High Performance

I am concerned about the offset @ +40mm. Is anyone using that size? From what I have read, it may work, but no one sounds too definitive.

Those won't fit without an adapter since bmw has a dfferent bolt pattern. Look for rims that have 5x114.3 or 5x4.5 bolt patterns.
