SH*T! I sorry, but I feel your pain. My 2nd CA18 was from them. $1,000 w/o transmission & harness. I recieve the engine with a hole in the oil pan and the turbo completly blown. the rest checked out ok...I got it from them b/c my brother got a SR from them and the wiring was hacked up, so they sent him a brand new harness along with it at the same price. He originally bought a "Blacktop" was the compression was bad, so they told him to buy the "Redtop" that checked out ok.My friend has a really good H22A from there as well. Either the managment has changed, and they're not checking things, or they're just selling the engines "as is" without telling people. Sucks.

Holy f'in ****e. How in the hell do you shear a cam gear straight off the cam itself? Only thing I can think of is the motor was spinning and the camshaft seized. But even still, I would expect the belt to break before that. I would definitely look for a refund/replacement. That's just plain ridiculous. Goes to show they didn't even check the motor before they sold it.

My first fear would be that the exhaust cam is seized up. There aren't any bearings, so if the head is screwed up, I don't know how much they can do to fix it.

What most likely happened to start with was an over tensioned timing belt. Putting ALOT of stress on the cam gear. What actually put it over the edge is anyone's guess.

Dee's reputation precides itself. I've heard nothing but good things. However, not everyone can wait in line to get an engine.Yes, take a chance from a shop, and you may get srewed over. The supply can't keep up with the demand.

seriously, ive seen a lot of stuff in my day but that is AWESOME. it really sucks, but its not like they have any case against you. just take it back and throw it in their faces. maybe beat them with the broken camshaft so they see that its not okay (works with pets, right?).

Bro, in all my years of working with the CA series, I would tell you wonder about the rest of the motor. And now that you've cracked-it open, they'll probably say you did it or you've just voided your warranty (If they gave you one). Crap happens man, but let's see if they are wiling to make the situation better. I personally wouldn't want anything to do with that motor because that thing look like it broke while the engine was running and that usually result in possible, head, valve, and piston damage. Good luck with this one.

89'ClubK's, I can understand not wanting to wait, but what that tells me is that people are ready to buy. Yet, when the engines are available, people tend to go with stuff a few dollars cheaper and that I can understand as well. If I had something to do with a bad engine, you'll have a gang of options. Though I'm not the owner of the engines, my friend does consult with me on what's flexible and reasonable and the one thing I tell him is, if people purchase one of his engines through me, he's gonna have to conform to whatever it is that needs to be done to make it right, or I just can't get involved. I bust my butt to make sure you guys who buy through me get the best that he has in his warehouse "Point Blank" . But I can assure you that once you get it, it won't be knocking or smoking and I think just about all of you who've purchased an engine set though me, can vouch for this.

I'm not advertising by a long shot, but just trying to set a bar, so you guys don't expect anything less from people who are giving you a so-called deal on an engine set. And for those of you who buy engine sets in pieces, you're all crazy and this will only result in you going crazier because CA18DET harnesses and computers are not that abundant and cheap anymore. And pretty soon, the prices won't be the same either as they have gone-up in some places.

Yeah, that what I said, nothing but really good things! If you can get on the list, get it from Boost Boy! save the trouble of a rebuild. Buying a cheaper engine may be less now, but after a rebuild kit and heartache, it's not worth it.
