Hey AZ hitman. I so do appreciate your kindness. Here's the deal. I have just won a 1993 Q45 without traction control. My question is what is it to drive a Q without Traction Control. I had come to actually depend on it. Joe in AZ stated that the engines in a 94 Q are virtually bulletproof. I don't know anything about a 93. I guss I could have the guides checked out. I bought a 92 engine less than a year ago with 25,000 on it, and I bought a transmission about the same time. Should I swap them out. The new 93 Q has 160k on the speedo. I have put about 13K on the engine and the transmission I dropped in the 91. Any suggestions guys. Oh and if it helps, the car if from Texas and the VIN # is JNKNG01C8PM224550.

BTW it is the color I have always wanted Black exterior and the interior is Black as well. No body damage and the leather looks immaculate. Everything works, but I am just now wanting to run into the same brake problem (leak from the actuator) or have the temp control all screwy, not to mention it would be great to drive a Q that had power steering that worked 100%. Those U-Turns are murder with out it working all of the time.

A 93 that is late enough to have the new guides is the best of the first generation Qs IMO. They have the best combination of features of all the years with the firmer suspension, better seats and first gear start.

Unless you're talking about a car built in the last couple of years, the best traction control is your right foot. Traction control systems of that vintage usually kill power way too soon, kill it too much and kill it for way too long. Losing the ability to modulate the throttle when the car is at the limit of traction for a second or two is downright dangerous. The last thing in the world you want to do when you lose traction at the back of the car is to completely close the throttle. I haven't had it on either of my Qs, and haven't missed it. The only TC I've ever used that I'd want on a car is the system on the Z06. It works well even on a racetrack. (one of the few nice things I'd ever say about a GM product).

Run the VIN at any dealer to see the service history.

Hopefully, timing chain guide replacement will be eveident.

Congratulations on your new ride. I think you will find the lack of traction control can be mitigated by sensitive throttle application. It is easier to perform maintenance also when it is absent.

The 1993 TCU will permit first gear starts from a stop without flooring it. palmerwmd know more about which late dates in 1993 may have the new guides original, but even he will probably say it is not a sure thing. Get the maintenance report from a dealer.

Thanks Guys. Ewt, that's probably how I lost control of the rear of my car and slipped on a section of ice on a main thoroughfare about the size of a shoe box. Well I suppose the lack of traction control has lured me into a false sense of security. I am going to see if I can post pics of the car. I think the only thing I do not like is the little mishap on the dashboard over the vents, i think it just needs to be either covered with a dash hopper (hate those) or go to an auto upholstery place.

WOO HOO! Welcome back Marlon!

I agree with the TCS sentiments voiced by others. I drove Jed's Q and the TCU is a PIA, much more enjoyable to drive with it OFF.

Have you decided what to do with your 91?

BTW, a black 93 with the swapped-in low-mileage engine and trans is most people's dream come true. Congrats and welcome back.

Here's the link Guys. Not yet AZ, Have you got any ideas? LOL. I think it would far too expensive for me to keep both of them. Besides, I still have to pay off the 93! The guy was great at working out a schedule.

I used to live less than a mile away from the dealer selling that car. If you go to pick it up, I highly recommend a stop at the nearby Goode Co. BBQ.

I am glad you guy approve. I almost it when I did not win the Q45 A. But Isuppose things work out in the end. And Palmer, I feel your pain, you can drive it any time. I'll keep an eye out for a great buy if you haven't already found one yet.

Black interior is kind of rare for 90-93 model, isn't it? Don't think I've seen it before.

What a beautiful car - The 90-93 seats look EXTRA sweet in black leather.

Well done, Marlon.

Thank you guys for the high praISE. I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT. I have heard that it is rare as well. I would however love to add those switches from the 90 in there. I love the fact that all the little decals are still on the doors. Did you notice that AZhitman? By the way I am going to either part the 91 Q with traction out or get rid of it really really cheap. I'm talking pennies on the dollar. LOL. The new Q is going to be fine in the garage. Does anyone have any ideas as to putting in a 92's engine and transmission in the 93. I still want first gear start, will that effect it at all? P.S still nervous about not having the traction control in the new 93. Never driven such a big and powerful car in the rain with out it . cause for concern guys.

Well, if you get rid of the 91 there will be plenty of interest, I'm sure.

As soon as you get the new one, go take her for a good romp in the wet weather (in a safe place). You'll come to find that the tires GOTTA GO!! There's no substitute for width and stickiness in keeping the a$$-end behind you where it belongs. 245/50/16's look incredible on any Q, BTW...

does that mean I am going to have to get rid of those Rims AZhitman. I have always wanted those. Aren't they BBS? Not sure, but I know that they were part of the wheel upgrade. I myself do prefer a 16" tire, but I am more partial to the 225 or 235 55's. decent ride height, not too bumpy and firm, but comfy. But let me know if I am going to have to get rid of the rims. If that's the case, I'll keep the rims I have on my 91, even though they do not look their best. Just hate Chrome rims, no offens to anyone who has em, but I prefer not to be seen when passing. Kinda stealthy and all that jazz.

Nope - The rims are interchangeable. Keep the BBS's if you like 'em. I had a set on my car before I got my 16" 99Q alloys (they're chromed:D)

235/55/15's should be just fine...

I sold my BBS's to Qship on this board.

Interesting to hear that black interiors are rare.

I have a 93 with 87K miles. Looks just like yours except the interior roof panels are also black.
