I think it has to be aftermarket. The factory ones don't play DvDs. Unless I am an even bigger moron and didn't realize it lol

and on factory ones, the disc doesn't load behind the Nav

No software hack yet. it's a dvd player in the back than can read dvd. there's just no dvd decoder in there. the hack is basically the same one they run on the wii in homebrew or any other console thats ever been hack to do something it was no programed to do.

+1 and it will involve taking apart the unit.

thats BS, i might never actually watch a DVD on it but the fact that i paid for it, and other aftermarket dvd/nav systems do it, means that THIS one should play them.

what about a burned DL disc with a nav update?? i tried popping it in but got no joy, anyone else burned a nav update to disc and had it load?

yep, but it doesn't work on some DL burner (the laptop ones fail most of the time) get some good verbatim DL ones an use imageburn and check verify disc avec burn. should work. also i hope you arn't just draging and droping an iso onto the disc to burn because it wont work, you have to specify "BURN IMAGE" unto the disc or else it's just going to be a dvd with an iso file on it.

it is a liability issue with car manufacturers. Looking at a DVD in the front of your car is a distraction from the road.

No car manufacturer allows you to watch movies in the FRONT of a vehicle. This has been the case from the beginning of factory installed navigation and entertainment systems. From the factory the only movies you will be watching are from the REAR of the vehicle. this is why you see them in mini vans, wagons, suv pickups etc as factory options.
