Ok...... I was thinking of a way to get around the drilling of the oil pan and running 1-2 quarts low..... so im doing a full KA-T build and i was looking at the block and was thinking about drilling and tapping a hole in the block above where the oil pan mounts to get above the full oil level. SO ........ Am i smoking crack? or would this work ?

I have talked to alot of people and some say "I run fine full" and others say "i run 1-2 quarts low" and at this point with the block all open i was just trying to prevent any future porblems! I just had no idea that the sr was "pre-drilled" for the outlet on the turbo.

Sr and RB both use a block style return. If you tap the pan in the correct position you will be fine.

For allt he newbs that may read this: DO NOT run your motor 1-2 quarts low...you'll develop rod knock and come back here complaining and saying" I should've went with an SR like my buddy told me to..."

And I plan to tap my block next time the motor it's out (for a "spring cleaning"). The SR has a thick AL spot that you can drill/tap - The KA's iron block will most likelly be too thin to tap (you'd only get a thread and a half)...so brazing a bung on there may be the way to go.

We'll see...I may try to weld one onto my spare block, to see fif it will stick.

thats what i thought too. this looks like enough space for th oil too drain properly

hard to see, sorry for the ****ty pic, but there is about 1.75" from the top of the pan w/ 1 gallon of water in there. the pick up shouldn't make a difference.

Hehehehe...a line output converter and a rubber mallet...awesome.

That's a good pic, shows the capacity quite well.

Thanks.
