Ok I searched and need help with J30 Rear end

Here is the deal, I bought a 5 lug rear subframe and has a J30 Diff. Guy said the Subframe was from a S14. It definitely has the J30 Rear Brake setup. You know the one with the drum e-brake. So here is my question:

How do you get the e-brake to work? the cable mounts for it or off. Then the cable itself is too long. Is there a different cable to use or a way to bypass it? I have to get new calipers since mine did not have any. So would it be smarter to get S14 or 300ZX Calipers and then use my stock e-brake lines to hook that up? Also what all brakes will fit the J30 Setup?

I did search both current and archived, nothing really relates to my questions and or the questions were never answered.
