This girl just got her car back from a mechanic and she was telling me that it just went in there for a tune up and they charged her 150 to change the oil and plugs but thats not what I'm mad about she was telling me that her car was running funny when she got it back so she took it back and they tried to charge her over 1000 dollers in repairs. They said she needs all kinds of things, new sensors, rewireing, and all kinds of crap. I went under the hood today and the vacum lines have been moved around to make it seem like it needs alot of work. I put everything they way it was back to factory and it's like a new car. I'm tired of these fake a$$ mechanics with there little certification, taking advantage of people who don't know to much about a car. I might be going to jail tonight if I catch this guy.

Word of advice to everyone who reads this. It doesn't matter what kind of certifications they have or who they work for. Always know the person that works on your car and always get a second opinion when major work seems to be needed. The best mechanics will be happy to show you exactly whats wrong and have no problem with giving you details of their work before they even start. Y'all have a good day I have some hunting to do.

There's 2 good places I go to, although I think they take their sweet time sometimes but yet when I tookd my laser in to have some things done, they called me up and told me i had a few other problems like idler pulley, my plug wires were corroded over and such. Went there to pick it up and the guy was like would you like to see your old stuff we changed off? I said sure. Other places wont ever offer to show you what they done and he didnt even charge labor to put the idler pulley on after they tore down my car 3 times. He only charged for first time. Messed up and they kept at it til they got their work done. :)

Tire Plus lied to me about my tires. Said they were dry rotted. Go to another place I got 10,000miles left before a new tire change. My mothers friend went to them for oil change, they drove her car out and filter and such fell off and car poured oil out. They tried to charge her to redo it and she got onto them that they didnt. :pface

That almost happened to my mom once. Luckily, my dad, who happens to used to be a technician was there. Nothing happened, but my brother and i were pissed.

haha pep boys had my friends 85 saab turbo!! mind you the kid is an idot, he took his car to pepboys to change the clutch.. this car is in excelent shape for a 85 turbo car`, ran perfect!! pepboys put in the new clutch and on the way home the car went bizerk an redlined and dies then wont start !

well he takes it back, after telling him i would help him work on it, and they charged him over 400$ more and told him he needed a new ehxaust manifold. valve cover gaskets new turbo! and some other crap! well they also pulled the old switch around vacum lines thing and had it running llike crap

i took a look at it and they had disconnected an hid the line for the fuel pressure regulator and BOV also broke off a TPS type prong !... i have yet gotten a chance to help him fix it all

it pisses me off when mechanics do this crap!! i took my Ka do a mechanic to have him check a coolant leak that i new what was wrong and how to fix it !! thinkn since my mom knew his son theyd take care of they offerd to help.. well i take the car in meet the owner and explain my problem lettng him know subttly i do know more then the average car owner.. well he takes my car... charges my mom since i lived in a diff city then it died in 100$ to remove the PS pump to see the leak better !! they kept it 3 days an when i went to pick it up, they tried to tell me i needed a new intak manifold (which i did but hey imcheap) and a new radiator mines leaking (hMMm why didnt i notice that one before !?!?!) that i need all new hoses new exhaust new brakes (howd they know this i never told them to take off my wheels!!) they told me 800$ to replace the manifold,... i litterly laughed in his face.. he asked me what was so funny ! i told him i can buy 2 new motors for that price!! then upon leaving i told him ill just do the work my self ! he told me its extremely difficult( i agreed ) then tells me the name off a salvage yard to get the part from.. yet he was chargin me for a dealership part (AS$HOLE !!) he was going to rip me off an slipped up telling me !! i eventually went to lowes an bought some heater hose, Clamps, some copper pipe, and some JB weld an fixed it my self for under 35$ ill just buy another KA or CA before i pay that much to fix my motor

All the more reason why it is a good thing to get somewhat knowledgeable about how cars work and more importantly, how YOURS works. Good thing about NICO is that when you have a question about what a "mechanic" tells you, more than likely someone here can help out. :thumbup

Quemore, did you call that shop up and tell them what you found? You should charge them labor fees for your time to correct their problem.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I LET MY DAD WORK ON MY CAR AND ASK HIM TO TEACH ME WHAT HE IS DOING,BECAUSE BE BEING A FEMALE THEY WILL LOOK AT ME AND THINK OH WELL SHE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CARS. WHICH IS BULL. YEAH SOME ARE LIKE THAT AND REFUSE TO GET HER NAILS DIRTY ,BUT SHE STILL DOESN'T DESERVE TO GET SCREWED OUT OF HER MONEY. I'M NOT SAYING IT DON'T HAPPEN TO GUYS CUZ IT DOES, BUT IT HAPPENS TO MORE WOMEN. NO I DON'T KNOW A WHOLE H###OF ALOT ABOUT CARS BUT I AM WILLING TO LEARN. SO WOMEN GET YOUR BOYFRIEND , FRIEND,COUSIN,UNCLE SOMEONE THAT YOU KNOW (THAT IS A GUY,AND KNOWS STUFF ABUT CARS) TO LOOK AT YOURCAR.

I had people screw with my dad a few times. He don't know jack.. then he would call me up and I would drive down to the shope and have them explain what is wrong with the car to me and I would say...ummm.... NO! thankx but no thankx and tell my dad to go somewhere else. it turns out taht one of my friends form back in the days worked at a family owned shop and I have been going there for the past 8 months now. I take my car, my wifes, dads, sisters.. everyones cars there. they tell me what is wrong with it and if i need to fix it or just wait... they are awesome...

BTW if anyone is in southern California.. let me know.. I'll take you to that place.. I know the owner.... I actually screwed something up when I was installing my intake and they had the car for like 2 days trying to figure it out..and then I went down there and worked on it with them and somehow I figured out what the problem was and they didn't charge me anything for all the time they put into it!!! now that's something... i was sure they would charge me atleast like$50 or something.. but he didn't even bring it up.. just charged me for the starter that went out...

If I can't do the work myself (which is not very often, but sometimes) I ONLY take my car to 1 guy. My family and I have been doing business with him for over 13yrs. He is expensive, but he is the BEST in Cinci and he stands behind his work 100%.

One time when I had him install lowering springs, we all couldn't tell which way the back were suppose to be installed (progressive part of spring on bottom or top???) so he offerend to install them one way and if I didn't like it he would do them the opposite way. Turns out he then again put them back origanlly how he had them before and all for no charge!

If anyone needs any serious work done to their cars and live remotely close to Cinci, OH, I would def. recomend Superior Imports in Burlington, KY. If anyone ever needs this number I can email it to you.

Ok update for you guys and an example for all the people that are think they can get away with s*** like this. I went to his shop and I confronted him and he talked to me like I was some idiot the girl keept me from ripping his heart out threw his throat luckly I took a tape recorder with me went to a lawyer and I might have me a new shop by the time I'm done. The first thing I'm doing is putting him on the broom and he will be paying her back for anycharges I incure on repairing it now I'm going to charge up the a$$ on this and he's going to have to pay for it. If anyone has this problem start with the better buisness bureur (did I spell that right?) and go from there.

Heh, Funny something like that happened to me though but in a diff aspect. Before i picked up my 240 i had a 91 Celica GT i was selling, Mother****er was in tiptop shape, Only thing is it had a brake fluid leak and bad motor mounts... And I am very mechanically inclined and my brother in law and his cousin are both Master Technicians... Well anyway, This girl who was intrested in buying it decided to bring a shady *** mechanic to take a look at it, So he tells me to pop the hood and turn her on, So i do, he does the usual looking around and then starts pulling out 1 plug wire to check the cylinders i guess, I was chillin at this point until he start messing with my throttle body, HOLY he was ****ing putting that **** at WOT and bouncing it up and down on the rev limiter for like 5-10 secs at a time.. This is where i said, WTF ARE YOU DOING ??!!!?He says your car has a big defect, its not soppouse to bounce on the rev limiter like that then he told the girl that cause of that my car woudnt go over 40 mph, omg i got so mad i told him.. "Of couse its doing that because it has a ECU Protection where it bounces off the rev limiter to prevent the Engine from blowing itself to pieces".. Then i told him, Let me do that **** to your camry and youll see itll do the same exact thing, and of course he refused to let me do it, I was like come on man, lets see.. Anyways i took the girl for a ride in the car after that where i drove it as hard as i could and put her up to 110 mph with no probs, She bought the car..Well the response i got from my brother in law after he heard this was, Bro you shouldve shot the mother ****er in the face.I was so mad after that, But **** it, Atleast i sold the car and i have my 240 now.

I like to walk into the garage with a supersoaker full of steakblood, after hosing the mechanics down I let my 2 dobermann's out of the truck. All of the sudden they're talking about refunds.

If all else fails, brute force has been proven to solve more problems then anything else from the dawn of time. Just don't end up in jail.

I got some good guys up here I know alot about cars but don't have the place to be fixing stuff or tools so I take it to this shop and they are really good. I had a squeky alternator belt and I asked them to tighten it up, he's liek sure no problem 1/2 hour later i get my car back. I'm liek dude what took so long he said oh your power steering pulley was loose and your adjuster was seized. so i was thinking oh s*** how much. then he said so I worked the adjuster off and soaked it wd40 for while that lossened her up and I snugged up your pulley for you it should all be good now. he told me the blts are also gettign to the end of their lives but don't worry about for another 5 grand handed me the keys and went back into the shop. I left and was liek damn that was nice. like 2 weeks later I got the belts changed just because he was so nice and cause they where shot he even showed me the olds ones and damn they were screwed pretty bad after that I go there for everythign even brakes he's liek your front are still good just do the backs. Most places will rape you for new everything

I haven't really had any bad experiences with getting my cars fixed, mostly because the only time I've ever taken them to a mechanic was for routine maintenance. Then if they tell me "you need to change so and so ", I'd just get the parts and do it myself. I haven't really needed to have any major work done, but if I do I have a friend who works at a garage who could probably help me out. Just saying that if it's something simple, try to do it yourself. Get a chilton's manual or something and learn for yourself.

Ok by popular request the guy that worked on the car is Mr.Jordan 708-275-9217

Her car is done and running beautifully I even changed the valve cover gaskets and the sparkplugs for her just to make sure everything was good at no extra charge. She's out ready to race now.
