ill take it that you have a 240sx?
to clean the butterfly valve you need to buy carb cleaner (get it at pepboys, autozone, napa etc...)
tools: a. philips head screw driverb. rag, old toothbrush, or paper towel to clean withc. 10mm combination wrench (use this if you cant unscrew something with the screw driver)d. pliers
1. loosen hose clamp that connects the long black intake tube to the MAS sensor/filter box. then loosen the hose clamp that connects the long black intake tube to the shorter intake tube that connect to the throttle body.
2. use pliers to move the hoseclamps on any small vacuum hoses away from where they connect to the intake tube and then pull the hoses off. once they are all off, pull and wiggle the long intake tube free.
3. loosen the last hose clamp on the short intake tube and pull the smaller valve cover hose off of it. then remove the short tube.
4. now you are at the throttle body, you can actuate it back and forth by moving the thing the throttle cable runs to on the side of it. hose that sucker down with carb cleaner, front and back (by moving it back and forth) then use your prefered scrubbing tool to remove the crap on it. you will need to clean both the butterfly valve and the walls around it.
5. reassemble everything the way it was before (not hard at all). only thing to watch for is to make sure the fatter black hose on the bottom left of the long intake tube is in securely, if not you will cause a vacuum leak and the car wont run good untill you fix it.
