OK How long should it take a body shop to paint a lip spoiler and the mustache?

Alot of it depends on how busy the shop is. A shop that can immediately get to work on it should be able to knock it out within 3 to 4 business days. However, some shops schedule work 2 weeks in advance.

you should have worked that out before you closed the deal on them doing the work. two weeks sounds way too long for just primer and paint. there would really be no point in you dropping of the parts until they were ready to prep, primer, paint, and install.most shops will give you an approx. day for completion. sux, sorry dude.

I preped/primed my lip and spoiler myself, paint should take about 3-4 hours, depending on type of paint and drying time. Now I am just waiting for my buddys shop to get an opening so he can do it.

found out today that the company they take it to to "de=chrome" was lagging *** and it should be ready early next week.

i know they do the painting in house so that shouldn't take long.

More than likely media blast the chrome away to leave just the raw plastic behind. The local body shop here does that in house though *shrug*

Is it better to get the the mustache "de-chromed", or just prime it? Any difference to how the paint will stick?

Paint wont stick to the chrome. but it's really difficult to get all the chromeoff, even for a bodyshop.

You don't have to completely de-chrome it though.Just Sand the chrome rough so the primer can stick to it, then prime and paint.

the guy told me then have to bathe it or something to change the polarization of the copper that makes the chrome stick to the piece. onces thats done its easy to sand it-prime it-paint it.

I just orded my still lip spoiler which should be arriving this Thursday and am intending on getting the mustache painted when I bring it into the shop. I was just curious how much you paid for the two to get painted?

From when they first get started, it should take a day to prep, and a day to paint. My fascia and rockers both got done in 2 days, and cost about $600 total to paint.

It's not real chrome...it's just like a chrome looking sticker. I don't thinkyou could sand it off completely without hurting the piece, unless youwere really carefull. It's not worth the effort IMO. Just sand it good toget good adhesion.

Oh, and paint cost. Lip= $175-$200 Mustache=$50-$70.
