So I will be making the next step in my relationship with my GF! I have a trip planned for the following week to go visit her family in Ohio (Cleveland). We are going to be leaving after she gets off of work on Tuesday the 22nd of July and we will be driving to Ohio.

Well that is what she thinks... She has no sense of direction so I will be driving over night and I plan to arrive in Washington DC in the morning. We will spend the day touring the city and will be staying over night in a hotel in DC. That night... My GF is a hard sleeper, I am going to put the engagement ring that I bought on her finger as she sleeps. Then when she wakes up I will propose to her.

Then when we leave DC that morning I will say ok... Now we are going to Ohio... Still no sense of direction... I am going to surprise her again and end up in NYC where she has never been. We are going to spend the day in the city and Go to liberty park, Ellis island, The Empire state building, central park, The subway, Grand central station... and a few other places. We will stay the night in a hotel that I stayed in when I was a kid with my family in Parsippany NJ. It is a Sheraton that is really nice and has beautiful scenery.

From their we have to be in Ohio to meet her family where we will be driving to Holland Michigan for a family reunion. We will be their for the weekend and then the rest of the week will be in Ohio. We plan on going to Cyder Point.... Woo Hoo.

I would like to take a day trip to Niagara Falls.

(Question1) Do you need a passport to go onto the Canadian Side now? I know we didn't when I was a kid... I went in august 2001?

(Question 2) Do you think that is a good way to propose?

Ok here is a picture of the ring... It is super nice and she is going to flip... Oh and lets just say I could have installed 2 vortech S/C in my g for what I paid for it... Oh well... She is 1million% worth It!

And Don't worry I bought the Setting and Diamond Separate so I got a good Deal!

The stone is a 2.12 Ct Elongated Princess Diamond. F in color and VVS1 in Clarity... If any of you have become diamond pros like I have in the search... Sorry the pics arn't good... Took them with the phone!

Let me know what you guys think or if you have any really good Ideas for me!

Yea We have been together for 5 years and have known each other since we were 12.... if things didn't work out, She would deserve half of anything we have accumulated together! She is a great person and I couldn't be luckier!

Yes I will have to get flowers... She doesn't like Champagne but She can drink Patron with the best of them

As far as the passport. Yes I think you will need the passport as of the first of this month. I actually had to have one last August for flying in. This was tricky to get inside of the time frame I needed it. Would be a little bit tricky since your GF would need one as well which means needs to apply, photos, etc.

In Washington State you can also use an 'Enhanced Drivers License', not sure what the requirements are by the guys from 'The Far Side' in this regard.

Sounds like a good plan my friend. Hope it all works out well.

Perry is right. You need a passport to come.

Make sure you wake up earlier than her.

AWESOME!

Good luck I hope all goes super smooth!!

That's a great proposal idea, but chancy in case she wakes up. Make sure to put a good amount of spit on the ring so it slides on easy..

But I wonder, with all the great places you guys are headed... is there a more "scenic" place that you thinhk may be more breathtaking?? (again, I am not knocking your current idea)

Also...MOST important... did you ask for her Dad's permission???

Felicidades Nano! If you're coming to DC, make sure to stop by and meet me and steve! We're directly off the highway. Also I'll give you an engagement gift or something. If my homegirl was still working at the Marriott I'd have her hook me up with a premium suite for you... but I have hookups everywhere so I'll let you know what I can do since you'll be here. My last day here will be the 22nd, since 6am thursday the 23rd I'll be on Continental Airlines flight 559. By the way, If your GF gets off Tuesday, thats the 21st.

Great proposal idea! Just be careful with the road signs. There's that slight chance that her "directionally challenged" self might catch that you're not headed in the right direction.

Nice ring. Does she like yellow gold? If I had that money when I proposed to my wife, I would have probably gone with a smaller stone and a platinum setting.

I thought about that... but she always wakes up in a good mood and it would be really romantic for us to do it in the morning.

I didn't ask her dad because their have been some problems in the family... I got into an argument with her mother (Of which i don't care for... she is a B) and she really doesn't speak to any of her kids..) her dad is a truck driver and is never home... and it is kinda pointless to do it over the phone... but he is a cool guy...

Thanks for the invite... I don't think she would approve if I stop by an Infiniti dealer lol

She works intil 5 the 21st and we will be in DC the next morning... Im driving all night

We both love yellow gold... Platinum didn't do a thing for me. The ring is yellow gold with a platinum head... that way it is stronger!

I know what you are saying about the signs... but she will sleep all night once we get past GA... She normally will take sleeping pills lol

They just recently changed it so you have to have a passport to go to Canada (like a month ago). But, the US side is just as good.

Here's an alternate proposal suggestion....get a helicopter flight in NYC and do it in the air! It won't be cheap, but it would be something you guys could remember forever!

Good luck!

I'll be in Holland the following weekend.

I'm guessing from Ohio you'll be taking 23 up to 96 and then over to Holland. Could stop in Ann Arbor along your way.

The girl is from Ohio so I'm going to imagine that she'll put up a fight about stopping there.

You'll need a passport for Canada. That changed on June 1.

I beat you to it hommie!!!

Just last week, I popped the question to my Girl Megan. It was our 4 year anniversary, and we planned to do something really nice on the weekend, but when I got home from work I told her we were going golfing. When we got there, I told her to look behing her seat (in the G35) and from there I put the ring on her finger and popped the big Question...

Not really romantic but TOTALLY unexpected. Caught her WAY off gaurd. Here it is, princess cut .5 carat. She's extatic! Welcome to the club brother, she won't be able to say No to that rock:bigthumb

Congrats....

I am glad you went with yellow gold... It is just classier in my opinion.

Yea I think it will be funny to see how long it takes her to figure out the ring is on her finger...

Side note... I didn't know you had wood inside your G

"sweat dripping while I'm wood grain grippin' "

That's a rock and a half, sick ring for your lady!

I almost jumped on a 1.5 carat, but she's into smaller stones, thankfully

interesting how you incorporated your car into your proposal. it's interesting how many men will cherrish their cars more than their women, but will spend more money on women than on their cars....

Yes the ring is very very nice!

I had the stone seperate and i never thought it would look that big mounted on a ring...

When I saw them together i was like OMG she is going straight to the bottom of the pool with that thing! and the jewler was lol.

My Gf would be happy with a plastic ring out of a vending machine... that is what why i wanted to get her something really special.

Yep we will be in my G for the trip lol... the Jeeps are going to stay at home...

Oh and the key is a simple balance between the two.... I want a Bentley Arnage T as my next car... and the ring makes that purchase level

It's weird, seems like a few G drivers are also Graphic Designers etc... We have good taste in vehicles, that must be it... Wait, a colleague of mine drives an 89 corrolla, when it starts.
