I just got the new pump. I have a question. Do I have to disconnect the battery? If so, will I loose my Bose sound system? Im not sure if this is the kind that resets and I have to find the code. Let me know. Thanks.

From EQwhipD's thread:

"Just pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running (let the engine die) and then loosen the gas cap to release the fuel pressure.

Then you just have to loosen the clamps on either side of the filter and pull the filter out. That's the tough part because the hose is routinely stuck to the filter. It'll take some cussing and twisting... just don't cut the hose unless you're ready to pay big $$ for new hose.

Good luck!

Sorry, I misread it as fuel filter, heheh.

Here's a nice thread on pump replacement:

i've done both...one from Joe, the other from Pep Boys I think (purolator?)

never had a problem with either... I think the key is to change it every 25-30k.

Never took the time to hacksaw one open...

Some members ought to do that and report what they see on the inside.

No codes, but you'll lose your preset stations.

AFter doing a couple fuel pumps, I find its best to pull the fuel pump out from the rear seat and then pull it out from the trunk.. Trying to shove that stupid thing down that little hole in the rear didnt work out very well for me..

Even after depressurizing the fuel system, I was sprayed all over my face and body Sunday night while removing my fuel pump. Wasn't exactly easy to hop up and move out of the way, as I was laying in the trunk while doing it.

So please have towels handy when you unbolt the metal fuel lines from the pump -- it may spray. And in my case, it sprayed a LOT. My face, neck, and hands burned for a day. And my favorite Hooters t-shirt was shriveled.

When I was done, I put some charcoal in the trunk to soak up the fuel smell -- it worked surprisingly well.

On a slightly unrelated note, I had a hell of a time getting the o-ring in place. It was larger than the groove, so I ended up cutting it and removing a quarter inch. Does the O-ring expand over time?
