Finally, after a lot of searching and negotiating and testing, I finaly bought the 2000 Infiniti QX4 with 123k miles for 6500 out the door including all taxes and fees. PLUS, the dealers are gonna put in a new timing belt and water pump. I got the vehivle last week and tomorrow I am gonna drop it off at the dealership as they called me and told me that they have received the parts and will install the timing belt and water pump tomorrow.

It was my very first choice and although a 170hp engine and not 240, it drives and rides very very good. I m loving it. Its very clean and the delearship is very good and respected and I know the sales guy out there. I waited and waited until they relented and agreed !! For 2 months.

Now this is one good vehivle we have and we need one more and guess what thats gonna be? a qx4 it is !!! ....

Also, I like the inside of a 2000 better than a 2001 for some reason! Primarily the wood dash!! An 01 has now wood dash but dos have a nice analog clock and a 240 HP engine with a timing chain. But I am okay with the 170hp on the 2000 and like the wood dash and the deep window tint on the front windows as well!

I will post the pics soon...Thanks to everybody here in these forums for helping me choose!! I have now completely ruled out ford escapes, tributes, montero sports and santa fes.

My second vehicle is also gonna be a qx4. A pathfinder LE if I absolutely cannot find a qx4. But I want the qx4!! ts just awesome!!

Only one slight minor dissatisfaction here. I have checked out multiple websites and also on consumerreports.org etcetc.....The qx4 surprisingly has LESSER gas mileage than even the Hummer H3 and a toyota landcruiser!! I was very surprised! I did a comparative side by side analysis. Dont understand how as the qx4 is a smaller vehicle.

congrats on your purchase!

as far as gas mileage, its all about the power to weight ratio.

the hummer H3 and TLC have more powerful engines, that work less than the little 3.3L in the QX4. You have the same engine as a V6 maxima of the same year, stuffed into a pig of an SUV which is why the mileage sucks. right now im getting 10 mpg i need to figure out what the hell is wrong. it should be closer to 15

But the 2001 qx4 with the most powerful engine in its class at 240 hp still gives the same gas mileage as the 2000 with 168!

Also, I had spoken to the previous owner about the vehicle and he said that his daughter drove to the university and thats that and that he never had any problems with it and did only oil changes on time.

I was a little pissed off... But I had the vehicle cheked out at firestone and everything seemed fine. The only thing they told me, and I was there looking at the undercarriage too, ws that the front wheel bearings would need replacement in the near future. Thats wear and tear and I was ok with that. There was oil(not flowing or leaking but seeping) at the rear main seal and they said this is very common for a high mileage vehicle and nothign to worry about.

Other than that no other known problems. Tomorrow they are gonna change the timing belt and water pump. Anything that you guys recommend that I get done while they are at it?

I believe a maintenance is due at 105k miles such as plugs, wires, fuilds, filters etc. I was contemplating doing that myself to save the money but the guy at firestone suggested that I get it done at the INFINIT delearship so that in case the part goes bad, 'THEY WILL COVER IT"!! Is that correct?

I mean if I get the transmission fluid changed and it goes bad, they will repair or replace the transmission or something assuming I have all the maintenance done regularly from the time of purchase (I cant account for what the previous owner did right?)
