Considering going with some different wheels on the 'vert, and I'm gonna try to avoid a full 5-lug swap if I can....

Please no haters, as this car has taken a little different direction than what I originally intended (will be representing NICO / 240sx.org at a lot of upcoming events).

Also, I realize a bigger / wider wheel is heavier, has clearance issues, will not improve handling / acceleration, etc. I'm well-versed in the "cons" to this move, it's not a concern.

Currently sitting on Tein S-Techs with rolled rear fenders, possibly switching to coilovers soon, 2 deg camber in front.

Here's my parameters:

Must be 4-lug, 17"Staggered fitment with fronts no narrower than 8"Must be able to run at LEAST 255's in the rear, really would rather go 275Prefer a decent-depth lipPrefer a mesh-style or "tuner" type wheelPreferably gunmetal or black with polished lip

I know this is a tall order, anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Currently considering FN's, but would entertain any other options. Would like to keep total wheel cost under $1200.

Posting pics = teh bonus.

I think this could turn into a good thread for others looking to do a similar upgrade....

RS Watanabe, 16x8 front and 16x8.5 rear

Only $2200 plus shipping without tires.

Or you could convert to 5 lug for under $400 and get used rims in the styles your looking for for one third the price. Just looking at it from the cost perspective. I only buy used rims myself...

the style is probably not what you want and the widths are weak, but http://www.centerlinewheels.com click on the build 4 or 5 lug wheels link. you choose the backspacing but in 4 lug you can only get 8" wide. forged polished aluminum, weigh and cost just about the same as FN's but are most likely much stronger. aither got 17x9.5 +19 for his 5 lug S13 and said the rim section is really thick compared to his cheapass dt05r's, they're like truck wheels.

i wish you could get wider but at least you can choose what your offset will be. 4 lug you're really screwed for wide 17's.

Well, the GTO or Attain 5 lug hubs are a pretty slick way to take care of the fronts. You'll have new wheel bearing in to boot, which is a nice bonus. That would work for the front and you can use S14 5 lug hubs on rears (I'm assuming this works for the 'verts, but I don't know a whole lot about them).

Anyway, that's what I'd do if I couldn't find a wheel I liked in 4 lug for my S13. As it stands, I'm kind of digging the Team Dynamics wheels in 4 lug, but they're not even close to meeting the criteria you're looking at.

first off this is just my opinion no offence.

also a pic of your car might help, since certain colors look better with certain stuff.

questions -

it sounds like you are trying to get attention with these wheels, not performance. with that in mind, have you considered 18s? 17s start to look small after 6 months. (trust me). although if your car is stock bodied then 17s would look better, agressive wheels on a stock looking car dosent fit imho.

do you want it "drifter style" or traditional buldging sidewall and not very close to the fender.

comments(opinions) -

black faced wheels with polished lip is currently the most popular ricer trend. i cant stand it. cant see the wheels! i hate dark faced wheels, just looks like they are dirty.

please god no more fn01rc. that has to be the most common wheel ever on 240sx. dont represent nico with somting played out and old. (again my opinion, dont take offence )

reccomendation -

silver wheels with a polished lip looks classy, if you want a little more eye catching having the entire wheel polished/chromed will do that for you as well. to get wheels like this (that arent ugly) in the 1200 dollar range you are going to have to dip into the used market. check any of the following

http://www.supraforums.comhttp://www.cl ... commustang forums

-requires purchase of adapters-corvette forums, porsche forums, any kind of roadrace forums.

or go on ebay, search forjdm wheelswork wheelsssr wheelsbbs wheelshre wheelsetc etc etc

cave in and get 5 lug hubs, or buy 4 to 5 lug hub adapters (about 140 for a set off ebay) since it seems kindof like you are just going to have these on for car shows? i might be reading it wrong.

cliffs notes -

shop the used wheel market. if you really want somthing new, its either going to cost an arm and a leg, or its going to be 5 lug. based on your parameters up top, i would buy these. paint the center gunmetal if you must.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...43956

About the aftermarket hubs, If you do choose to go this route, dont get the attain hubs. I have them and they work great and were way cheaper than anything else, but they come with short studs that make spacers any larger than 2-5mm unrealistic/unsafe. I suggest peak performance hubs:

OK, looks like the DT05R's are a possibility.

chmercer - My car is all over the forums, the black convertible in the NICO Nationals pic threads.... I have charcoal centers and a polished lip now, and it's FAR from ricer. Actually, if my current wheels were 17", I'd be ecstatic with them.

I don't want 18's , as that's a tough fitment on an S13.

I WON'T be doing any "Tijuana stretch" with the tires, I prefer a bit of bulge in the sidewall - I prefer that Mr. Curb meet Mr. Tire before Mr. Rim.

No chrome, since the entire car is black with charcoal or carbon fiber accents.

FN's are OUT, agreed. I don't like the way they look on an S13 unless it's "dorifto style".

Those 'Vette BBS's are SO sexy, I'd rock those in a heartbeat if I could find the proper adapters.

I may wind up just doing a 5-lug conversion, but there's no way I'm dropping more than a coupe hundred on it...

Keep the ideas coming guys, and as always, THANKS!!!

Those newer motegi wheels with fat 5 spoke are set up for 4 lug are they not? 17", looks like multipiece, affordable...

Nothing wrong with black centers and polished lip. It's trendy to bash the latest trend..

Some Fikse FM10 with black centers would be hot, since you get wholesale pricing right? You'd be untouchable as far as exclusivity too..

I'd kill for a set of the Fikses... I'm certain the setup I want would exceed what I paid for the car.

The Motegi Touge are a possibility, but only in 5-lug.

The DT05R is definitely hot, and it meets your criterion in the size/fitment/price department. ..But if I'm remembering correctly, it's not an easy wheel to get ahold of, unless now someone in the U.S stocks them.

It also has some questionable quality as far as the coating on the wheel is concerned.. it scratches easily.

That's mine. ChargeSpeed lip, PDM skirts, OEM rear valances.

Fenders are rolled, but with my current drop tires are nowhere near the fender even at full compression of the suspension... And they're PERFECTLY flush right now with 15mm spacers.

So probably no fender mods in the works.

thats not chrome door trim, thats the sun reflecting off of 7hours of claybarring and hours of polishing. as for the bra... if u could see the paint under it... you'd understand why its there for the show... normally i dont run it, but front bumper is oxidized down to primer .

These wheels are pretty cheap (about 850 bucks shipped last time I checked) and are designed to clear big brakes.

They come in 4 lug, and with different widths if you call the company. I think only 17x7 or 17x7.5 inch though

Their website is at http://www.veloxperformance.com/default.asp
