I got my Versa as talked about here on December 13, 2007.

December 13, 2007The day of receiving it from the dealership I noticed the door ajar light wouldn't turn off. Not really sure where it was coming from as everything seemed to be shut - would follow up with dealership tomorrow.

December 14, 2007I talked with the salesman I bought the car from at the dealership about the problem - he said to bring it in as soon as possible if it keeps happening and we would get it fixed.

December 21, 2007I finally had time to take the car in (as I was busy on the weekend helping my parents move and then busy with work). By now I had traced the problem back to the hatch - you have to slam it with much more force then should be necessary, otherwise it just rattles around loosely. I took it in and they had a kid who looked like he was still in high school look at it - he started hitting the latch loop with a hammer. I'm not really sure if that's how something should be adjusted (especially on a new car) but I'm not a mechanic...

December 21, 2007Problem reappeared worse than originally (probably due to the hammer incident). I made arrangements to take the car in and leave it there to get it fixed. I left it there for 5 hours and got it back with the problem back to the original severity. Due to Christmas holidays I didn't talk to them until December 29th, 2007

December 29, 2007I called the dealership after they were closed as I couldn't even get the hatch to close and I was mad - I left a voicemail requesting a call back and as of yet I still haven't heard anything.

So what should I do from here? I really can't explain how frustrated I am right now and if the dealership is too incompetent to fix a problem like this then what will happen when something really breaks with it (which I'm sure it will now as I received it broken off the lot)?

The main reason I bought a new car is so I wouldn't have to be in the shop every 2 weeks getting it fixed - so far I've had this one there more than my old one so what's the point.

Also, how do you find out the name of a Nissan district/regional manager so I can have that ready with me when I go in next (incase I end up needing it).

Thanks,

A very mad/sad Versa owner.

you need to call 1-800-NISSAN1 and tell them of your problems with your dealer and they will help you in getting it fix properly.

Here is what I would do. As soon as you can, take it in to them while they are open (don't call..go in). Keep your cool while talking to them. Be firm, but don't start cursing or yelling. That won't get you anywhere. Speak directly with the service manager or whoever is currently "in charge" of the service department when you are there. If he is not familiar with all that you've been through up to this point, enlighten him. If he is familiar with it, remind him. Make it very clear to him that you have been screwed around enough with this issue and you want it fixed correctly. The two biggest mistakes people make when dealing with service departments are:1. Being too nice and wishy-washy. They'll walk all over you.

2. Getting irate and yelling and cursing. They will pretty-much ignore you out of spite if you do that.

Good luck!

I'm just curious if the problem lies in the latch (locking mechanism) that's actually inside the hatch instead of the piece it latches to. But hey... that's up to the dealership to find out.
