I own an 07 versa and today i noticed that two of my cd's were skiping (which has never happened before) and i was confused because i knew that the cd's werent scratched. so i ejected the cd's and both had several drops of an clear,thick, somewhat sticky, oily substance; so i wiped it off the cd's and they played but it shortly happened again but this time with less of that subsatance. i found it odd that there was the substance only on the shiny side of the disk. and i should probably mention that when it initially skipped i was driving on a bumpy road, but bumpy roads have never done this before. Does anybody have an idea as to what the substance was, and what caused it, should i bring it into a mechanic/shop??? confused

Assuming your "new car" warranty has expired;

DO NOT insert a "CD Lens Cleaner" disc... this will coat the lens with grease!!

Here is the "ideal" fix...

This isn't considered "normal," but it's not a terrible thing. Some of the lithium grease used to lubricate the mechanism has managed to drip onto one or more discs. The best way to handle this is to disassemble the stereo and try to gently wipe away some of the excess grease. I had to relube my entire mechanism due to a lack of lubrication, looks like yours is the other way around... if you're not mechanically inclined (with electronics), I suggest taking it to a small electronics shop, or take it to someone who once worked on VCRs, they will be able to take care of this. One thing you also need to be aware of; the felt piece the disc slides through may also have grease on it. This needs to be cleaned by gently swabbing it with a chamois "q-tip" dipped in rubbing alcohol to prevent more discs from getting coated.

OR

You can just keep cleaning your CDs periodically with alcohol, hopefully, the glob of grease is gone by now.
