If you want a full synthetic motor oil you will need to buy Redline or Amsoil. If you have the receipt for the valvoline take it back and get your money back. K&N makes good oil filters, so your o.k. there. If you want to buy a damn good "synthetic" oil that has much better used oil analysis results than the previously mentioned oils buy yourself Penzoil Platinum. I run that in the A C and my Z06.
Oh, and don't be afraid to switch to a synthetic motor oil on your first oil change! The old "Don't break in a motor with synthetic" is pure non-sense. I wouldn't put royal purple motor oil in my lawn mower. It's garbage.

Whoa whoa whoa. Yeah, first off, Mobil 1 makes the best traditional motor oil in the world, Period. Its been proven, its been road tested, the results are all over the place. As for the non traditional oils like AMSOIL and Redline. They are good stuff. AMSOIL is far better in motor oils than Redline and Redline is far better in transmission oils than AMSOIL. I have ripped apart a dozen blocks through the years and I tell you what, I have never seen more sludge build up in any engine more than I did with Penzoil. That sh*t is absolutely horrible. Bad stuff to use in your engine, period. Same goes for Quakerstate, now that they are merged. Don't trust it. Mobil 1 fully synthetic FTW for traditional motor oil. AMSOIL is the best oil by far though. Far less breakdown than any other oil at comparative levels.

The latter number is how thin the oil gets and its shear point. Basically 5w20 oil has less film and shear strength than a 5w30, 10w30 or a 0w30 motor oil. This can lead to increased engine wear under today's demanding heat and high-stress engine performance conditions. I would stick with the manufactures recommendation on this. The first number is how cold it can be outside and still pump the oil through during start up. Honestly, in Cali you could run 20W-30 all day. However in conditions like canada you would need 5W-30 because the temps are much colder during start up
