As far as oil companies, I honestly don't care what company on my own personal car, what matters is the numbers. I typically just run any synthetic oil, mineral oils are good if you simply just want to change your oil.

Fully Synthetic Characteristics:0W-300W-405W-40 Fuel economy savingsEnhances engine performance and powerEnsures engine is protected from wear and deposit build-upEnsures good cold starting and quick circulation in freezing temperaturesGets to moving parts of the engine quickly

Semi-synthetic Characteristics: 5W-3010W-4015W-40 Better protectionGood protection within the first 10 minutes after starting outRoughly three times better at reducing engine wearIncreased oil change intervals - don't need to change it quite so often

Mineral Characteristics :10W-4015W-40 Basic protection for a variety of enginesOil needs to be changed more often

Here is a ambient temperature chart:

Just an fyi for people out there - the "W" in the oil does not stand for weight, it technically stands for winter.

Hope this helps you a lil in your oil choice, good luck!Speckid14

The number before "W" stands for it's viscosity in the cold. (If I remember correctly).

The first digits in the oil specifications refer to the viscosity of the oil in the cold, it is usually the smaller. The second number is the viscosity at operating temperature, this number is generally higher because it stays thicker, and is less likely to thin out.

Again:1st Number: Cold Viscosity2nd Number: Operating Temperature Viscosity

Basically all W says is that you can use it in the winter with out "locking up" your motor, which is much preferred in a motor vehicle.

well if you want to know, I am pretty sure they will tell you in the owner's manual. If you don't want to run a synthetic ($) then I would just run a 5w30. But again, review the charts and charactheristics of the above oils to determine what will be best for your personal vehicle. This optimizes what you get out of your ordinary oil.

speckid 14...nice info bro....i use regualr oils diring my motor break in periods..and change it every 300 miles..sometimes ill go longer on my break in oils depending on the rings i choose..like cromemolly rings tend to take longer to seat.....after that..its pure 100% synthetic oils....i like torco products/redline/enyos/royal purple..its your choice..but definitly synthetic to protect my investment..allso..synthetics..dont break down like regular oils under high heat and load...the benifits just make the price issue void...hope this opinion helps.
