oil thermostat for oil cooler

how come there are 4 ports on this thermostat?

one side for feed to the cooler, the other for return to block???

When the temp is low it comes in one side, cuts across the middle of the "H" and back to the block. When the thermostat opens it comes in the same side, skips the middle, and exits to the cooler, then comes back into the unit and exits from the same port as with the thermostat closed. The female threads on the sides are probably for mounting purposes.

is it that much needed?? I mean is 180F a good temp for the CA under normal operating temperature is going to need this... I think the CA runs kind of hot already.... maybe some input from Dee or else...?

Deff needed, especially when just lightly cruising, your oil will take forever to get up to operating temps.....cold oil = no good.

Not to mention if you live in cooler climates etc.
