I just hooked up an oil pressure and oil temp gauge. Pressure gauge works fine, temp gauge don't ever move off bottom of scale. They are electrical, and the little box unit thing(that all the wires go to) for the temp is getting power, verifiied with multimeter. So far I assume it is either a1.) bad wiring connection (not power though), wiring LOOKS ok2.) bad gauge/sensorTo test farther I need to know what type of electrical signal is sent from the sender to the box, and what signals go to the gauge from the box. And what average/correct values should be. I won't be able to work on it for a little bit (a week or so), I just want to get an idea of what to look for. Any insight is useful. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, your best bet may be to call the manufacturer of the gauge to make sure the wires are the correct ones. Maybe if you list the make of your gauges, then someone who may have the same gauges can chime in.

I *think* the temp gauge works from 0-5v, like the stock water temp gauge, but I guess to a finer level.

If I am correct (and I don't know if I am - so do this at your own discretion), both the pressure sender & temp sender should be operating on a 0-5v scale.

So... you can try to hook up the temp sensor to the pressure gauge and the pressure sensor to the temp gauge. Since you know the pressure one works.. if the pressure gauge doesn't move, then the temp sensor is broken, if the temp gauge doesn't move, then the temp gauge is broken.

Something along those lines.

The temp gauge I got is an ISSPRO (Part No: R5654) range is from 140-320. I guess the stuff operates in DC with a voltage scale (instead of pulses,) so I should be able to check it with a tester. I am going to ask the manf. for the numbers I should be seeing. If anyone has an idea I am still open . Thanks

I just had a thought, this might be because the sender isn't being grounded right. It is supposed to ground through the threads, but I used a bunch of wraps of tape on the temp one because I couldn't screw it in all the way. I ran a wire that was just held against the metal to a grounding screw, but there might not be a good connection. At least something more to check...

sorry to bump this back up guys, but I am not sure about something. I talked with the manuf. and they said that in a lot of newer cars, you might not get the oil warm enough to even register over 140°F. I followed the installation guide and got the result "The sender is bad." But I am thinking this is what would happen if the temp wasn't high enough to register. The gauge has been confirmed as working.

I have been searching and havn't found a "normal" temp range for a KA. But once someone said around 185° was normal, but I am not sure if they ment for a KA or an SR, as both were being mentioned. Just wondering if you guys think the KA would get over 140° during average to heavy driving. I have the temp sender mounted on the autometer oil gauge extension kit, which is 3' of stainless line. On thing I noticed was that after I was running the car for a while with the hood open the other day (enough to get pressure to around 25psi and the coolant warmed up), the stainless line wasn't even warm.
