A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I live in the NW and recently purchased an '04 Spec-V with nismo. I need to get an oil change and am curious about what type is suggested. My guess is 5W20, but what about synthetic blend, full synthetic, etc.? I realize synthetic are more expensive, but do other spec-v owners recommend?

Stock oil in the Nissan's is 5w30...You could always run a semi-syn and full syn oil. The only thing is you wouldn't be able to downgrade after that. You'd have to keep changing the oil with the synthetic oil. I run MOBIL 1 5W30 full synthetic in my 1.8. Mobil 1 is the only oil I recommend, besides the more expensive brands such as Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil...etc. Really the choice is up to you.

I've been running full synthetic in my 02 Pathfinder and my 03 SE-r almost since day one. It is reccommended that you run the first 10,000 miles on dinosaur oil before switching to synthetic by the way.The biggest advantage for me is winter start-ups. It gets really cold up here in the winter, and with synthetic oil, it flows right away, thus reducing internal engine wear on startup. I have been engine trouble free on both vehicles, and still go from oil change to oil change without having to top up. Yes, it costs more per change, but it's worth it as far as I'm concerned. Not only that, but I don't get too worried if I stretch out my time between changes a little.

After break-in, go synthetic.

agreed synthetic is the way to go. best against viscosity breakdown. i run 5w30 Q fully synthetic. its much better than conventional oil.

I put 5w30 Mobil 1 fully syn in all of my cars. I change it between 3.5K and 4K....closer to 3.0K in the cobra.
