Your options for the pump are to stick with stock.

The pickup doesn't break. What happens is that when you get your motor, depending on how the motor was shipped, the stamped steel pan could be dented. And when the pan gets dented, it ends up getting pushed against the pickup, and starves the pump.

The solution: Pull your oil pan off and beat out any dents you see.

You can upgrade the stock one by trimming the opening of the pickup allowing more oil to be taken in.

If its a redtop oil pickup it can break from stress. I had a perfect oil pan on my SR and out of nowhere, the oil pickup broke. Its because the support bracket is mounted on the pickup tube which leaves the pickup head very very easy to break. The Blacktop oil pickups have the support bracket on the pickup head which makes it million times better.

If pressure goes below a certain point the Oil Light will come on. I honestly think it is 0. Or if there is something wrong in the lower harness or an open or short or unplugged. It may illuminate that light.
