I have a 2002 I35 with 88K miles on it. I got my oil changed today and the guy wanted to sell me the engine oil flush routine which I did not get. He claimed that I have alot of oil buildup/sludge in my engine. He came to this conclusion by saying the dipstick was reading low. I asked him to measure how much oil comes out when they drain it. He claimed only 1 quart came out. How do you know if you really have a problem or if this guy is full of bs? The car is running fine and there are no other indications.

probably a lot of b.s. your routine oil change should keep sludge to a minimum; oil has enough detergents and stuff in it to keep soot and junk suspended in it (turning brown color and stuff) and it should all come with it once the oil is drained.

Probably BS

A flush might even make the car an oil burner by removing theseal create by oil and piston rings.

If you use synthetic oil, you will get less carbon buildup.
