What do you guys think about engine coatings for the VH? I'm thinking about coating the inside of the heads, crankcase & front timing chain compartments with Glyptal, somthing similar to this.

I tried this on my KA-T project, but never used it.

Whats are the benefits besides possibly being easier to clean the varnish after a tear down?

From what I understand, it aids oil return to the pan, makes the walls a bit slicker for oil to flow down. It's an old hot rodder's trick that was used with cast iron blocks to help seal casting pores & imperfections.

I noticed that the inside of the timing covers are pretty smooth to begin with, so it may not be much help there.

Only the single outer oil molecules are in contact with the metal. I thnk a few courses in tribology would help you understand.

the second main funciton of oil besides lubrication is to cool. so if your slicking off the oil from the walls of the engine then the oil has less time to pick heat up from the walls and thus cooling less. also what happens if the paint starts to flake over time? this is bad news browns for your engine, just some thoughts to think of . .

Yes, and if oil exhibits properties similar to other fluids (adhesion), then other oil molecules are affected by this outer molecule.
